Go to Sky Club B31. It has a year-round heated outdoor Sky Deck — open-air plane-watching is the single best forty minutes a 3-year-old can have at JFK, and it is right by the likely gate. The Reserve gives you 15 visits each per Medallion year (Vatsala's additional card carries its own 15), so two visits costs you nothing that matters, and re-corrected 29 Sep The one-time guest passes still exist — the 19 Sep note here was wrong. delta.com today: the Reserve's Basic Card Member gets "four One-Time Guest Passes for complimentary access" each year, and additional card members are not eligible; otherwise it is $50 a guest. Use one for Leela. If they are used up, the Chase Sapphire Lounge in Terminal 4 takes you plus two guests at no charge.

The one catch: B31 is among the most crowded Sky Clubs in the system and the morning international push is exactly your window. A7 has a covered Sky Deck and far more seats — but it's 15 minutes away, so judge it at the desk, not after you've sat down. Centurion is the zero-walk fallback: it's immediately past security, but it's $30 for Leela and has no deck.

The room is the whole argument, and it is the same argument that killed Vdara. Leela goes down around 8pm. You and Vatsala then need somewhere to be that is not the bed. The Venetian gives you a physically separate lounge — three feet down, with a sofa and an armchair — in its standard room. Wynn's standard King is ten square feet smaller and has no separation at all. You would be paying $365 to lose the one feature that matters on a night with an early toddler bedtime.

And moving would make Thursday worse, not better. Your breakfast is now on the Venetian's own 4th floor — an on-menu tofu scramble at a third of Wynn's price. Move to Wynn and you lose it and inherit the $39 oatmeal.

🍽️ Wednesday dinner — Crossroads, 5pm ✓ booked · #6V7KLJ3YGNDC

The reason to change it is that Monday is already Mint, and Monday's Mint order doubles as the flight food. Eating there twice in six days wastes the one night you land early, with a car, actually hungry.

Nothing on the Strip is walkable from the Venetian — the resorts are 20–30 minutes apart on foot and the pavements are bridges and escalators. You have the Avis car from 3pm, so treat every option below as a drive.

The naming was done on the phone, not on the menu: the chef confirmed dal, chana masala and ghee-free roti on 17 Aug. ~10 min Works — the menu marks (J). But it is Monday's dinner and Tuesday's flight food already.

superseded The 13 Aug pick for Wednesday was Rutba. It moved to Thursday lunch (settled 17 Aug; same-floor parking, so no stairs), and Wednesday became Crossroads.

Decision: Crossroads Wednesday at 5:00pm, straight from the airport moved 16 Sep — that's 8pm on your body clocks, and dinner is done by ~6:15.

  • Today's rest is on the plane — DL807 is 5 hr 43 gate to gate; there is no nap slot on the ground. Bags → Avis → Resorts World (14 min); the Venetian after dinner.
  • Eat something on the plane. The Crossroads menu has no allium-free protein for Adithya.
  • Business casual — no athletic wear, swimwear or flip-flops; change on the plane if needed.

"Is Crossroads worth it?" — yes, and I was underselling it menu checked 15 Aug

I kept calling it "pasta and bread, not a meal." That was unfair. The Mafaldine Cacio e Pepe is a $33 entrée at a restaurant where mains run $20–55 — it is a substantial bowl of pasta, not a side. With the grilled sourdough as a starter, that is a dinner. The fair criticism is narrower: it is carb on carb, with no vegetable and no protein. You will not leave hungry; you will leave having eaten one note.

The thing that actually justifies it has nothing to do with your plate. Crossroads is 100% plant-based, which means this is the only meal on the entire trip where Vatsala and Leela can order anything they like without a single question being asked. Every other night they are ordering around you — checking, substituting, or eating something you cannot. Here nobody accommodates anybody. That is worth more than the food is.

It is also the one occasion meal of the week. Everything else is functional: takeaway collected in Springdale, groceries from Sprouts, a plain plate at the lodge, Mint ordered partly for the plane. Chef Tal Ronnen's room at Resorts World is the only place on this itinerary anyone would call a night out. Budget roughly $180–220 for the three of you.

Keep it. The real cost is the clock, not the menu — at 5pm Pacific it's 8pm on your body clocks — early enough to work without a nap. And Rutba got its call (17 Aug, chef-confirmed) — it matters because Thursday's canyon food comes from a kitchen you'll be eating at for the first time that same lunchtime.

And pack Zion out of the same kitchen the best food idea on this trip

Rutba is on Spring Mountain Road, which crosses I-15 — the road you take north. So this is not a detour, it is the on-ramp. And it opens at 11am, which is exactly when you check out of the Venetian.

The plan: lunch there Thursday at 11:00, and order Thursday's dinner and Friday's lunch to take away at the same sitting. settled 17 Aug Fresh that morning, in the car by ~12:10, and into the lodge mini-fridge by late afternoon.

Why this matters more than it sounds. The weakest meals of the whole trip are the canyon lunches — otherwise cold Sprouts groceries eaten from a mini-fridge. Indian food is the one cuisine that genuinely survives this: dal, a dry sabzi and rice refrigerate for two days and reheat in the shared microwave. One order converts a cold shelf-stable lunch into a hot dinner.

Order for one solid extra meal, not for three days. Friday is the realistic limit — three-day-old restaurant food in a mini-fridge is pushing it, and Thai Sapa is nineteen minutes away for anything after that. The cool bag comes from Sprouts in St George about two hours up the road, so the Rutba food rides in a cooled car until then; in late October that is fine, but keep it out of the sun.

Origin India, which used to be the other Jain-friendly name in town, has closed. Don't go looking for it.

For Vatsala & Leela

  • Gondola verified 13 Sep — indoor canal, 10–13 minutes, seated the whole way. Sun–Thu 10am–11pm. $39 per person (about $34 on select weekdays), and Leela pays full — roughly $68–78 for the two. Thursday at 10am means a short queue and a fresh 3-year-old.
  • No street performers any more. The Venetian's street-performer programme ended in December 2023 — the canal and the painted-sky ceiling are still there, the living statues aren't.
  • Not this trip: the Bellagio Fountains — F1 grandstands block ground-level views from 15 Sep to 10 Nov.

The drive — re-timed with real stops Google Maps, 29 Sep

The old "~5:35pm at the lodge" didn't survive measurement. The 2 hr 47 was the Venetian to the lodge with no stops; the leg you actually drive starts at Rutba, and with the stops it is 3 hr 20 of driving — over your 3-hour line, so it gets a real 30-minute break at Mesquite. ☕ Thu 22 breakfast — the 4th-floor café (Canyon Ranch café / Truth & Tonic — same place) reversed, 16 Aug

I got Truth & Tonic wrong, and you were right to come back to it. I reasoned from "no longer fully vegan" to "therefore nothing for him" — which does not follow. I have now read their actual breakfast menu, and it contains the single best-structured dish of the entire trip.

First, the name: it's one restaurant, not two the Venetian's own site contradicts itself

Canyon Ranch Café and Truth & Tonic are the same place — one café on the 4th floor, inside Canyon Ranch Spa + Fitness. The sequence, as best it can be reconstructed:

  • It began as Canyon Ranch Café, an ordinary omnivore spa café.
  • Canyon Ranch converted that existing café into Truth & Tonic and made it fully plant-based — the Strip's first vegan restaurant.
  • Around April 2024 it reverted to an omnivore menu. Canyon Ranch's own dining page now says the menu offers "vegan, gluten-free, and animal protein options."
  • And the most recent menu document — dated June 2025 — is branded "Canyon Ranch café" and carries bacon, chicken sausage, salmon and prosciutto. So the older name appears to have come back along with the meat.

The Venetian still hosts both pages, and its Truth & Tonic page still calls it "the first fully vegan restaurant on the Las Vegas Strip" — which its own operator contradicts. Stale marketing nobody took down. Tripadvisor is the tell: its listing URL is Canyon_Ranch_Cafe and its page title is Truth & Tonic — one venue, renamed.

What this means in practice: ask for "the café on the fourth floor at Canyon Ranch" and you will be understood whichever name is on the door in October. And it changes nothing about the food — the June 2025 menu is the newest primary document either name has, and the tofu scramble is on it.

The dish: Omelet or Scramble, $21 — with a tofu base marked V

Base — choose one: Whole Egg · Egg White · Tofu (V) · Just Egg (V, +$2)

Customize with: spinach · tomato · bell pepper · roasted chilies · onion · cremini mushroom · cheddar · Swiss · mozzarella · feta

Served with grilled red skin potatoes, toast and jam.

Why this is structurally better than anything else we have found: the onion and the mushroom are items you decline, not things hidden in a base. Everywhere else on this trip the allium is cooked into a sauce and you are asking a kitchen for an exception. Here you are just not ticking two boxes. Tofu, spinach, tomato, bell pepper, roasted chilies — a hot cooked breakfast, on-menu, no favours asked.

Skip Just Egg (+$2) — it is the onion-containing product. Take the tofu.

✅ Called — and two dishes are confirmed 16 Aug

Correction to what I wrote: they are reachable. I said the only number was the Canyon Ranch spa switchboard. There is a direct line to the café — (702) 414-3633 — and it goes straight through. Worth having on the page permanently.

ConfirmedDetail
Tofu scramble ✓ Mushroom and onion removed → peppers, spinach, tomato and vegan cheddar. Note they carry a vegan cheese — that is not marked on the printed menu, so it is new information.
Overnight coconut chia oats ✓ Mixed berries and toasted coconut. Asked directly about honey: "No. There is no honey in it. It would be on the side if needed." A clean second option, and not on the printed menu either — so the menu has moved on since June 2025.

That is two confirmed dishes at a café one lift ride from your bed, at roughly a third of Wynn's price. It is the strongest breakfast result of the trip and it settles Thursday.

One question left, and it belongs at the table rather than on another call: the scramble is served with grilled red skin potatoes, and FeelLove flagged unprompted that breakfast potatoes very often carry garlic-and-onion seasoning. Ask when you order — if they are seasoned, take extra toast instead. Same for the jam. Neither is worth a second phone call; both are ten seconds at the table.

Take Canyon Ranch café. It is upstairs, it is a third of the price, and it is the only breakfast on this trip where your hot dish is on the menu rather than negotiated. Wynn stays as the confirmed backup — if the potatoes turn out to be seasoned and the whole thing feels thin, you have Melissa's promise five minutes up the road.

Bouchon is the nicest room at the Venetian and the wrong answer for you — worth naming so it stays named. Thomas Keller's French bistro, brunch Thursdays 8am–1pm, patio over the pool. A menu of butter, eggs and cream. V&L would love it; you would eat fruit.

Keeping the earlier finding on the record: Melissa at Terrace Pointe confirmed on 16 Aug that JUST Egg is their only egg substitute — so both Wynn vegan egg dishes are out on the dehydrated onion — but that the kitchen will make plain potatoes and vegetables from scratch with no onion or garlic, plus a vegan tortilla. Read back and confirmed. Still unasked there: the cooking fat (say oil, not butter), oatmeal water-vs-milk, and the granola honey. The call transcript closes by thanking "Alan" though she introduced herself as Melissa — doesn't touch the dietary answer, but it is a reason to restate the order at the table rather than assume it was logged.

Thursday morning, and two decisions that came out of it

settled 17 Aug The early Rutba pickup idea is retired — you eat lunch there instead (below).

❌ And don't move hotels to the Wynn $429

Wed 21, 2 adults + childRoomResort feeAll-in
The Venetian ✓ booked 650 sq ft, sunken living room$143.08$62.36$205.44
Wynn Resort King 640 sq ft, one open room$572.00$62.36$634.36

Wynn's cheapest room for three is $572, not the $515 quoted for two — the price moves once the child is in the search. Same $62.36 resort fee at both, both fully refundable to 18 Oct. And with breakfast now upstairs on the 4th floor, the last reason to consider moving has gone.

Thursday — the chill version arithmetic superseded 29 Sep

This used to say 2h50m of driving and a 4:35 arrival. Measured with the real stops it is 3 hr 20 of driving, and the lodge is ~6:00pm MT — see "The drive" above. The point it made still holds: take the whole morning, there is nothing to gain by leaving early.

The morning, unhurried — with lunch at Rutba 17 Aug

Eating at Rutba rather than collecting from it is the better version, and not only because it is nicer. You taste the kitchen before you trust it with two days of canyon food, and you order the takeaway in the same visit so it is made fresh alongside your lunch. That was the one weakness in the pickup plan — ordering blind from a place you had never eaten at.

5:30Leela up. Room food from Wednesday night; Grand Lux is 24 hours if that fails
7:30Breakfast, 4th floor. Tofu scramble, no mushroom, no onion — or the chia oats. Breakfast menu 7–10am; café open to 2pm

10:45Check out
11:00–12:05🍛 Lunch at Rutba, 5115 Spring Mountain Rd. Order the canyon food at the same sitting. Your best meal of the Vegas half, and V&L eat Indian properly
12:10On the road — the full stop-by-stop plan, with measured legs, is in "The drive" above: Moapa (optional), a 30-minute Mesquite break, FeelLove, Sprouts
~6:00 MTZion Lodge. Dinner is the Rutba food, reheated in the shared microwave

And this drops a stop. If Rutba feeds you lunch and dinner, Thai Sapa isn't needed on Thursday at all — it moves to Friday or Saturday, collected on a down-canyon run, which the gate code makes trivial. That is 15 minutes back and one less thing to coordinate on the longest day.

What you actually lose by arriving at ~6:00 instead of 4:45

DaylightSome. Sunset is 6:47pm, so you arrive with ~45 minutes of light and the canyon floor already in shade. Unpack, eat, and leave exploring to Friday — the Grotto Trail is already there
The drive up the canyon in good lightThe one real loss. Springdale up to the lodge past the Court of the Patriarchs is genuinely spectacular, and dusk softens it. But you drive that road three more times — Friday, Saturday and out on Sunday
UnpackingNothing. Ample parking, and the rooms are right there — do it first, while there is light
DinnerNothing — it is in the car, already cooked
StargazingSlightly better. Dark arrives sooner after you do

So: do it. The cost is one scenic drive you will repeat three times. The gain is a genuinely relaxed morning, a proper hot lunch for you in a week that is otherwise a lot of carried food, and a kitchen you have tested before it caters two days of your canyon meals.

✅ And the call has been made — this is settled. The chef confirmed dal, chana masala and ghee-free roti, and there is same-floor parking, so the stairs question is dead too. Thursday no longer rests on a hope. Order the canyon portions at the table; the roti in particular travels and reheats better than rice.

Remember the hour. Utah is Mountain Time — you lose one crossing the state line, and it is priced into every figure above. Sunset on 22 Oct is 6:47pm. The hard floor is leaving Rutba by 12:30 (re-measured 29 Sep); past 1:00 you are unpacking at sunset. If lunch runs long, drop FeelLove — Sprouts is the stop that actually matters, because the canyon groceries come from there. The cooler comes from Walgreens on Wednesday night, so the Rutba food is on ice from the start.

Eating in the building buys back 45 minutes against the Wynn plan — which goes straight into the drive. Wynn stays the confirmed backup: Melissa's plain potatoes and vegetables with a vegan tortilla, five minutes up the Strip, if the 4th floor disappoints on the day.

Stop 1 · FeelLove Coffee ✓ Answered in full, 13 Aug

~2 hr of driving in, St. George. The only place on the route that explicitly advertises "vegan and organic breakfast, lunch and dinner" alongside French pastries — rather than a conventional bakery you'd have to interrogate.

Alternative: Bonrue Bakery, 18 S 200 W · (435) 986-7777 · daily 6am–4pm. Better-known bakery, but it's downtown so it adds 7 more minutes, and vegan availability is unverified — a conventional bakery is a long shot for vegan and Jain.

This is the one that matters. Two minutes from FeelLove, same side of town. Organic produce, a proper vegan freezer and bulk bins — and unlike a restaurant, everything is labelled, so vegan and allium are things you can simply read rather than negotiate.

  • Breakfasts and lunches for Fri–Sun. The lodge room has a mini-fridge and a shared microwave, no kitchen — buy what's fine cold or reheats well. This removes most of the week's dietary risk in one stop.
  • Lunches to carry into the canyon. There's one restaurant up there and the shuttle round trip is 40+ minutes — you can't nip out.
  • The vegan treats. Sprouts' freezer and bakery carry clearly-labelled vegan ice cream, cookies and packaged sweets. This is the reliable treat; FeelLove is the nicer experience.
  • Canyon breakfasts and Saturday's picnic. Friday dinner is the Red Rock Grill, so this shop is breakfasts for the 23rd–25th, Saturday's Grotto picnic and shelf-stable backups — mini-fridge and shared microwave, no kitchen. Full list under Fri 23.
  • A cool bag. Genuinely needed — it carries chilled food the last hour up to the lodge, Friday's dinner, and on Monday night the flight food.

Stop 3 · Hurricane — fuel and top-up ✓ Verified 2 Aug

29 minutes out from Springdale, and the last real town. You don't need fuel on Thursday — the fill is Sunday (below). If anyone needs a restroom before the park, Maverik, 15 N State St (24 hrs) is right on SR-9.

🔑 Gate code 54143

This is the entire point of the booking. Lodge guests are the only exemption to the shuttle-season driving ban — you may drive the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive straight to the lodge while everyone else is on a bus. Use the gate code to get through.

The limit: drive to the lodge and nowhere else. No stopping at other pullouts or parking lots. Personal vehicles are barred even before and after shuttle hours — the exemption is the lodge run, not free rein.

Drive in as early as you like ✓ Confirmed by the lodge, 7 Aug

The lodge confirms the code works at any hour of the day, in and out. So you can arrive on the 22nd whenever you like — no waiting for the 4pm check-in — and come and go freely across all three nights. That was previously forum hearsay; it is now first-hand. The lot has ample parking.

You can also leave and re-enter freely during your stay — down to Springdale for dinner and back up is fine. The one hard limit: you cannot drive beyond Zion Lodge on the Scenic Drive.

Thursday is arrival only. You reach the lodge around 6:00pm — the Grotto Trail is Friday at 9am, from the same door.

Watch for a red parking permit. Along with the gate code, they post a red card for the rearview mirror that identifies you to NPS staff — reportedly sent about two weeks before arrival, so around 9 October. Chase it if it hasn't come by the 12th.

One residual Whether the code still works on the 25th after you check out — "in and out" plainly covers the stay itself, but not obviously the hours after the final checkout. Plan the 25th as though your last drive up is before 11am; if it turns out to work afterwards, that afternoon is a bonus rather than a hole.

Arriving in the canyon current 13 Sep

  • At the lodge ~6:00pm MT (6:25 on a slow day), after lunch at Rutba and a 30-minute Mesquite break — see "The drive".
  • Pay the $35 vehicle entry at the south entrance — it covers 7 days, no reservation needed — then through the gate with code 54143 and straight to the lodge.
  • No hike today. Unpack, walk out and look up. The last shuttle up leaves the Visitor Center at 6:00pm and the last bus down leaves Temple of Sinawava at 7:15pm — after that the canyon is yours.
  • Dinner: the Rutba food, reheated in the lodge's shared microwave. Vatsala and Leela can order from Red Rock Grill instead if they'd rather.

Sunset is 6:47pm and dark comes fast between the walls. No lighting up there and patchy signal — stay near the lodge after dark. Quiet hours from 10pm.

Getting to the shuttle from Springdale

A separate free Springdale town shuttle runs 9 stops through the village. Get off at Zion Canyon Village and walk across the Pedestrian Entrance footbridge into the park — that's where the canyon shuttle starts. Saves fighting for a visitor-centre parking space, which fills early.

Entry ✓ NPS, checked 13 Sep

  • $35 per private vehicle, valid 1–7 days — covers the whole stay in one payment.
  • America the Beautiful annual pass, $80 — worth it only if you'll hit two more federal sites within the year.
  • No timed entry or reservation to enter the park. (Angels Landing needs a permit — not relevant here.)
  • The shuttle is free.
  • Non-US residents aged 16+ now pay a $100 per-person nonresident fee on top — US citizens and residents don't.

Trails that fit this crew ✓ NPS distances

NPS classes Zion Canyon's easy hikes as 0.4–3.5 miles with no more than 100 ft of elevation gain. These three are the ones that work for a 3-year-old on foot and someone who can't do climbs.

TrailDistanceGainTimeFromSurface

Court of the Patriarchs0.1 mi round trip40 ft1–3 minStop 4Paved, 4 ft wide, steep — strollers need a push

Court of the Patriarchs is the best payoff-per-step in the park — about a minute uphill for a full canyon view. Worth doing on any day you're passing stop 4.

Pa'rus is the only stroller-friendly trail in the canyon — and it's also the only one dogs are allowed on. Riverside Walk is the signature easy walk and the one most worth doing.

Not doing: Angels Landing (permit, chains, sheer drops) or The Narrows (river wading, cold in October). Neither is appropriate.

Current park conditions nps.gov, updated 16 Sep — read 29 Sep Nothing on your list is closed. The live closures are the East Rim Trail (partial, after a large rockfall), which also closes Hidden Canyon and leaves Observation Point reachable only from the east side. None of the three was in the plan.

Don’t let Leela put her face in the river. cyanobacteria advisory, live NPS advises against submerging your head in, or drinking, untreated water anywhere in the park because of toxic cyanobacteria. Riverside Walk runs along the water and she will want to paddle — hands and feet are fine, face and mouth are not, and wash hands before the Grotto picnic. Same rule for the filled bottles: park taps only, never the river. (This is also why The Narrows closes above 150 cfs.)

The one road you can drive ✓ Verified 3 Aug

The shuttle-only rule covers the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive — the canyon floor. It does not cover the Zion–Mount Carmel Highway (Route 9), which climbs the east side. That road is open to private vehicles year round.

  • From Canyon Junction it's ~4.5 miles of switchbacks up to the 1930s tunnel, then completely different country on the far side — slickrock domes and checkerboard sandstone rather than canyon walls.
  • Serious scenery for zero walking. The best move for an afternoon when Leela is done, or if the weather turns.
  • Tunnel limits: 11′4″ high, 7′10″ wide, 35′9″ long. Any normal SUV clears it easily; oversized vehicles need a permit and an escort.

Canyon Overlook Trail sits just past the tunnel — and I'd skip it. It's only 1 mile and ~200 ft, but the overlook is largely unfenced above drops of several hundred feet and there have been fatal falls. Every guide says carry small children the whole way. Wrong trade with a 3-year-old who wants to walk. Parking is also only 8–10 spaces.

🚋 Open-air tram tour ✓ booked — Fri 23, 11:00am

This is the best thing we've found for this particular crew. A narrated, roughly 60-minute open-air tram along the 7-mile Zion Canyon Scenic Drive, from the lodge up to Temple of Sinawava and back, stopping at all the major viewpoints. The lodge advertises hop-off, but on the 23rd the departures are 9:30, 11:00 and 5:00 — the next tram after yours is six hours later, so stay on.

Why it fits: everyone is seated the whole time, there's a guide talking, and the canyon does the work. No walking for Vatsala, constant new things for Leela, and it covers ground you otherwise only see through a shuttle window.

Answered and booked — $17.50 per adult, Leela free under 4. Details under Fri 23.

Late October means cold mornings and early dark. Sunset is early enough that a 5:00pm last shuttle is a real constraint on the Sunday and Monday. Layers, and plan to be down-canyon by mid-afternoon.

What you're not doing, and why

Zion's two signature hikes are out — not by preference, but because both are categorically unavailable to this group.

  • Angels Landing — 5.4 mi, ~1,500 ft, final half-mile on chains along a knife-edge with 1,000+ ft drops either side. Also permit by lottery. Impossible with a toddler; genuinely dangerous at 26 weeks.
  • The Narrows — wading the Virgin River. Late-October water is cold enough to need a drysuit, and the riverbed is loose and moving underfoot.

Riverside Walk recovers most of it. It is the paved approach to The Narrows and ends exactly where the river walk begins — same canyon, same thousand-foot walls, same river. You look straight into the mouth of The Narrows. You just don't step in.

The season question is answered — and I had to answer it myself. Spencer B at Central Reservations gave the price and the booking route but skipped whether it runs in late October, which was the only part that mattered. I opened the lodge's own booking system: 23, 24 and 25 October are all live, and only two days in the whole month are dark.

Why this is worth more than it looks. As a lodge guest you may not drive beyond the lodge — so the upper canyon is otherwise only reachable by the free NPS shuttle. The tram is the alternative: narrated, open-air, seated the whole way, a scheduled stop at the Great White Throne, on to the Temple of Sinawava with a restroom stop, then back. For Vatsala at ~26 weeks and a 3-year-old, that is a far better proposition than standing on a shuttle.

✓ Booked — Fri 23 at 11:00am, $39.36 for all three, Leela free under 4. Doing it on the first full day makes it an orientation: you see every viewpoint on the Scenic Drive, including the upper canyon you may not drive to, and then pick Saturday knowing what is actually up there. Back by noon, afternoon free.

Booking: zionlodge.com → "Tram Tours" (right side of the page), or 833-778-9290. Full refund if cancelled 48+ hrs before ✓ read off the FareHarbor booking page, 20 Sep — their words: "Tram tour reservations must be cancelled at least 48 hours before the scheduled tour time to receive a refund." Arrive 15 minutes early; you meet in the parking lot in front of the Sentinel Building at the lodge. Paid $39.36 on 13 Aug — so it is prepaid but genuinely refundable, which clears your rule. Group size 25, so it is small; book rather than assume.

🚋 The tram, as an orientation

You woke up in the canyon and you are not checking out. No 11am scramble, no driving in, no hunting a visitor-centre parking space while everyone else does exactly that.

  • Dawn first. Ten minutes outside the lodge before breakfast is the thing people drive from Vegas for.
  • Grotto Trail at 9am moved here from Thursday — a flat mile from the lodge door and back, shaded, no shuttle needed. A gentle warm-up before the tram, and it means Thursday can stay a pure travel day.
  • Open Air Tram Tour, 11:00am–12:00pm. $17.50 each, Leela free — $39.36 all-in. Sixty minutes, narrated, open-air, seated the whole way, with a stop at the Great White Throne and a restroom stop at the Temple of Sinawava.
  • Doing it first is the point. It reaches the upper canyon you may not drive to, and it shows you every viewpoint on the Scenic Drive — so tomorrow you choose knowing what is actually up there rather than guessing from a map.
  • Afternoon — Pa'rus Trail, hard-capped at about a mile total. Drive out to the visitor centre (the gate code lets you back in at any hour). It is 1.7 miles each way, paved, 50 ft of gain. Cap it: half a mile out, then turn round — not "as much as legs allow". Saturday is the bigger walking day and it needs her legs and Vatsala's feet intact. Turning round early on an out-and-back costs you nothing at all.
  • Grab the Junior Ranger booklet at the Visitor Center — which is where Pa'rus starts, so it costs nothing. The Nature Center is shut — NPS runs it summer only. Leela works through the booklet over the weekend and hands it in at the Human History Museum on Sunday for the badge and certificate.
  • Lower Emerald Pool is cut too ✗ cliff edges — it looks like the obvious easy swap, but NPS advises avoiding its cliff edges and railings cover only part of it. If Pa'rus feels like too much, do less of Pa'rus — it is out-and-back, so turning round early costs nothing.
  • Second empty evening after the last shuttle (6:00pm up, 7:15pm last bus down) — and Zion is a certified International Dark Sky Park, so step outside once Leela is down.

Last shuttle up today is 6:00pm; last bus down 7:15pm. From Sunday: 5:00pm and 6:15pm. Ranger-led astronomy programmes run May–September only — the sky is still the sky, but there is no telescope night in October.

Lodge food — menus received 7 Aug ✓ Castle Dome IS open

Sierra at the lodge confirmed by email: "the Castle Dome Cafe will be open during your stay in late October." That's two restaurants up there, not one. She also sent both menus.

Red Rock Grill — the manager's own answer ✓ Confirmed 8 Aug

Heather McBee, Manager of the Red Rock Grill, replied directly — and was unusually straight: "Many of our vegan options at the Grill do contain garlic, onions, or shallots, so your safest option may be to plan on shopping at the natural grocer here in town." That is a kitchen telling you not to lean on it. Believe her.

And then she went further. Asked whether anything hot was possible, she came back with two things ✓ 11 Aug:

  • Sautéed vegetables — "I could offer you sauteed veggies for sure."
  • The nightly vegetarian pasta, made plain with no sauce — "if you request with your server, can be made plain with no sauce." Note this is the same nightly pasta I had written off after her first reply; she has now offered it herself, unprompted.

No baked potato — they don't carry whole potatoes at all. And ask at the table sautéed means a pan, and a pan usually means garlic before you got there. Worth one sentence to the server about a clean pan, and the same for the pasta water.

Cold options, from her first reply:

  • Emerald Pools Power Salad — shaved broccoli and Brussels sprouts, carrots, apples, cabbage, kale, pecans, cranberries. Ask for oil and vinegar in place of the herb vinaigrette — her instruction, not an inference.

correction I had read the menu description and called the citrus-herb vinaigrette clean because no allium was named in it. The kitchen says swap it. That is the whole reason for asking rather than reading.

The Chef's Vegetable Pasta Bowl is off. I had it as the single most promising thing to ask about — a nightly chef's dish being the easiest thing to build allium-free. Heather didn't offer it, and her blanket warning covers it. Don't build an evening on a special she declined to name.

Vatsala and Leela are fine — her words: "your wife and daughter should have no issue ordering from the Red Rock Grill."

Still true from the menu: the Elk Chop carries a wild mushroom demi and the Steak Frites black truffle oil, so mushroom and truffle are live in that kitchen, and the footer warns "cross-contact may occur."

Castle Dome Café — snacks, not dinner

Counter-service. For you it comes down to fresh grapes ($4.30), fresh berries ($4.60), fruit ($2.20), Cafe Green Salad ($6.30) and maybe fries. The Veggie Wrap and Veggie Cup both come with hummus (garlic), and the Black Bean Burger isn't marked vegan. Useful for a quick lunch or to grab fruit; not somewhere to plan a dinner.

and the menu rotates Heather: "Since the menu changes, I am not able to confirm the exact offerings that will be available in October." So even the fruit and salad above are last season's menu, not a promise.

So the two nights work out as

MealPlan
Fri 23 dinnerRed Rock Grill, in the lodge. Sautéed vegetables or the plain nightly pasta for you — confirmed in writing by manager Heather McBee, 8 and 11 Aug; ask: egg-free pasta? vegetables in oil, not butter? — and the full menu for Vatsala and Leela. Nothing to carry, and you still get the empty-canyon evening.
Sat 24 breakfastPacked, or Castle Dome for fruit and coffee
Sat 24 lunchPacked, carried into the canyon
Sat 24 dinnerDrive down to Springdale — 12–15 min (Google, 29 Sep). Variety, and you've had one evening up there already.
Sun 25 breakfastPacked — check out by 11

superseded An early answer from the Grill was "one salad, and shop in town", and for a while carrying dinner was the plan. Heather McBee's written reply (8 and 11 Aug) replaced it: Friday dinner is the Red Rock Grill, with Thai Sapa takeaway (to 9:30pm, 12–15 min) as the backup.

🥬 Sol Foods, Springdale — the real find in her reply ✓ Verified 8 Aug

995 Zion Park Blvd, Springdale UT 84767 · (435) 772-3100 · open daily 7am–11pm

The only full-service supermarket in Springdale. Gourmet, organic, ethnic, gluten-free and conventional groceries; produce, dairy, meat and seafood; a bakery doing croissants, bagels and muffins; artisanal cheeses; snacks; a large beer selection; homemade salads and entrées. Reviewers specifically confirm organic and vegan products and a solid gluten-free range. The deli does a salad bar, homemade soups and made-to-order sandwiches.

It is expensive, and you have said that does not matter. For the record: reviewers put it at Whole Foods prices or above, sometimes double a normal supermarket. The made-to-order sandwiches are reported as fairly normally priced; the salad bar is "very pricey, but pretty fresh." 4.1/5 on Tripadvisor.

So this is the answer to Springdale, not the fallback. Open 7am to 11pm every day, in town, with a salad bar you build yourself and sandwiches made to order — the only place on this trip where every ingredient is your decision rather than a kitchen's. The lodge room has a mini-fridge and a shared microwave, not a kitchen — so between Sprouts on the drive in and Sol Foods for restocks (14 min, 5.4 miles down-canyon by car), every canyon night is covered without a single restaurant saying yes.

That reframes the outstanding calls. Oscar's, Whiptail, Park House and MeMe's are now upside — a nice evening out if one of them can genuinely cook around allium. None of them is load-bearing any more. Which also means you can afford to be blunt with them and take a no.

check on day one Now that this is the primary, it is worth ten minutes on the first evening: which salad-bar items arrive pre-dressed, and whether the deli soups are allium-free — a salad bar is only as safe as its dressings. For Vatsala: skip store-made deli salads and raw sprouts, which CDC lists as listeria risks in pregnancy.

👧 Every trail, checked for Leela NPS sources, 15 Aug

Two get cut. Checked against the National Park Service's own trail pages rather than family blogs, because blogs call everything "easy for kids".

TrailVerdictWhat the drop-off risk actually is
Grotto Trail
Fri 9am — from the lodge door
✓ SAFEST ON THE TRIP 35 feet of elevation change over a mile, flat and unobstructed, through meadow and then alongside the canyon road. No drop-offs. The one caveat is the opposite kind — it parallels the road, so hold hands on the roadside stretch.
Pa'rus Trail
Fri afternoon
✓ safe surface bikes Paved, flat, no exposure — but it is the only trail in Zion open to bicycles, at up to 15 mph, and it has "lots of turns, bridges and blind corners." Riders must yield and warn, but a 3-year-old wanders. Keep her on the inside and hold hands at the four bridges and every blind corner — the bridges are also slippery when damp.
Riverside Walk
Sat — the anchor
✓ with hand-holding Wide, flat, stroller-friendly. It does carry minor drop-offs to the river — but most are protected by low stone walls, and there is nothing exposed or vertiginous. The rule is simply: she walks on the wall side, holding a hand. Restrooms at the Sinawava stop but none along the trail — go before you start.
Weeping Rock
was Sat morning
✗ CUT NPS's own words: stairways and minor drop-offs, not accessible to those with limited mobility. 98 feet of climb in 0.2 miles — a sustained ~10% ramp — and the alcove is wet by definition, so the surface at the top is slick. Cold morning shade on top of that. The tram already shows you this side of the canyon on Friday. It buys nothing new and it is the single most likely slip of the week.
Lower Emerald Pool
was the Friday swap
✗ CUT This one surprised me. It reads as a gentle paved family walk, but NPS advises avoiding the cliff edges: there are steep drop-offs down the side of the mountain and "a few exposed spots where a fall could be dangerous." Railings exist only in some sections, mainly near the falls. Not with a 3-year-old.
Court of the Patriarchs
the spare card
✓ About fifty paces from the bus to a viewpoint. Nothing to fall off.

So Saturday gets simpler, not harder. With Weeping Rock gone it is two shuttle boardings, not four: ride from the lodge straight to stop 9, walk Riverside, ride back to stop 6 for the Grotto picnic — and then walk the flat half-mile of Grotto Trail home to the lodge instead of queueing for a fourth bus. Door by about 1:15, nap by 1:30.

The general rule this exposed: in Zion, "easy" and "safe with a toddler" are different questions. Emerald Pools is rated easy and has unprotected cliff edges; Grotto Trail is rated unremarkable and is the safest thing here. Ask about drop-offs specifically, not difficulty.

🥾 More in the canyon than we had researched 14 Aug

You were right that it looked thin. Digging properly turned up several things that suit this crew, including one that reopened only last year.

WhatEffortWhere
Grotto Trail1 mi round trip, flat and shadedStarts at Zion Lodge — literally your front door — and runs to the Grotto picnic area
The Grotto picnic areaNoneShuttle stop 6. A dozen-plus large shaded tables — the place to eat the carried lunches rather than on a rock
Weeping Rock ✗ cut 15 Aug0.4 mi but 98 ft on stairsReopened Sept 2025 after a rockfall — but NPS lists stairways and minor drop-offs and a wet, slick alcove. Cut on the no-unsafe-trails rule. The tram covers this side of the canyon anyway
Zion Human History MuseumNone — indoorNear the south entrance. Artifacts, archival material, park film. The wet-weather and tired-toddler answer
Zion Nature Center ✗ closed in October—NPS: it operates summer only, and the Junior Ranger Station is closed for the season. No loss — booklets are also at the Visitor Center (Friday) and the Human History Museum (Sunday), both already on your route
Court of the Patriarchs~50 paces from the busShuttle stop 4. Three sandstone peaks; the cheapest view in the park
Pa'rus Trail1.7 mi each way, paved, the only stroller trailVisitor centre — outside the shuttle road, so you park normally. Do any amount and turn back
StargazingWalk outsideZion is a certified International Dark Sky Park and you are sleeping in the middle of it ranger astronomy programmes run May–Sept only

Yes — do Pa'rus on Friday, not Sunday. ✗ correction 15 Aug I twice wrote that Sunday has "a two-hour drive to Hurricane." It does not — the lodge to the Cacti Casa is 36.9 miles, about an hour (Google Maps, 13 Sep). Pa'rus still belongs on Friday, but for the opposite reason: Sunday is nearly empty, not tight — see the gap it creates below. Friday afternoon is free after the tram and you can drive out to the visitor centre and back on the gate code.

The revised shape:

  • Thu 22 — at the lodge ~6:00pm after lunch at Rutba; dinner is the Rutba takeaway; first dark-sky evening.
  • Fri 23 — Grotto Trail 9am, tram 11am as the orientation, then Pa'rus in the afternoon (drive out, capped at about a mile), Junior Ranger booklet from the Visitor Center where the trail starts.
  • Sat 24 — Riverside Walk out as far as she is good for, lunch at the Grotto picnic tables, then the bus home. Two shuttle rides all day, ~1.5 miles on her legs.
  • Sun 25 — one last dawn, Human History Museum on the way out (indoors, no walking, and it is right by the exit), then Hurricane.

Does it all fit? Saturday doesn't — but it's fixable

Three of the four days fit comfortably. Saturday, as written, does not. Riverside Walk alone is a shuttle to stop 9 and back plus two hours on foot; bolting the Grotto and Weeping Rock onto the end makes it four shuttle hops and roughly six hours out, with the short climb landing at 2pm on legs that have already done two miles. That is too much at 26 weeks with a 3-year-old.

The fix is sequence, not subtraction. Going up-canyon the stops run 5 Lodge → 6 Grotto → 7 Weeping Rock → 8 Big Bend → 9 Temple of Sinawava. So ride past the lunch stop, work back down, and nothing is done twice:

~WhenStopWhat
9:159Restrooms first at Temple of Sinawava — there are none along the trail, and a two-hour walk on a 26-week bladder needs the stop
9:459Riverside Walk — as a turnaround, not a destination. Walk out 30–40 minutes and turn round wherever you are. The canyon walls close in within the first quarter mile, so the scenery is immediate; the far end is a view of the Narrows, not a reward worth carrying her a mile for
~12:006Grotto picnic tables — lunch in the shade
~13:005Take the bus the one stop home. changed Walking the Grotto Trail back was the right call with a stroller; without one it is another half-mile on legs that have already done their day. Keep that trail for Friday morning, when she is fresh

Everything else stays. Friday is the Grotto Trail from your own door, the tram, and a capped mile of Pa'rus — that is a full day and nothing else should go on it. Sunday is an indoor museum on the way out. The only thing that actually drops is the Nature Center, and that's because it's shut, not because we ran out of room — Leela still gets the Junior Ranger booklet at the Visitor Center on Friday and hands it in at the Human History Museum on Sunday, which is tidier than the original plan.

Court of the Patriarchs — fifty paces from shuttle stop 4 — is the spare card for a morning that goes sideways. It costs nothing and asks nobody to walk.

What to know before you go up

  • Much of the park has no mobile signal. Download maps offline and tell someone your plan. Lodge Wi-Fi is satellite — join "Zion Free WiFi" — and it will be slow.
  • Two queens, not a king. It's what was available, and it's the right room anyway: Lodge Suites and King rooms are all second floor with no lift, which at 26 weeks is worth avoiding. The 2-queen Lodge Rooms have no such restriction.
  • $30/night incidental hold on a card at check-in.
  • No laundry on site — nearest is Zion Park Laundry, downtown Springdale, 7am–10pm daily (per the lodge).
  • Dial 0 from the room for porter help with bags. Dial 9 first for any outside number.
  • EV charging is by the cabins in the south lot.

Riverside Walk — the one to do

Third morning in the canyon, second full day, nothing to pack. You saw the whole Scenic Drive from the tram yesterday, so today you are going back to the bit that was worth it.

  • Riverside Walk — but as far as she's good for, then turn round. Shuttle from stop 5 (Zion Lodge) to stop 9, Temple of Sinawava. The full thing is 2.2 miles round trip, 57 ft of gain — an hour at adult pace, two with Leela. Since she is walking it on her own legs, treat 30–40 minutes out as the plan and the far end as a bonus. It follows the Virgin River between thousand-foot walls, and the walls close in within the first quarter mile — you get the whole effect early. Stop at the river as often as she wants — hands and feet only: NPS's live cyanobacteria advisory says no heads in the water and no drinking it.
  • It ends where The Narrows begins. Stop there. A fine place to look into something you are not doing.
  • Weeping Rock is cut ✗ drop-offs — NPS lists stairways and minor drop-offs and says it is not suitable for limited mobility, and the alcove is wet by definition. Ride straight to stop 9 instead and gain an hour on Riverside Walk. See the trail-safety card.
  • Lunch at The Grotto on the way back down — shuttle stop 6. A dozen-plus large shaded picnic tables, which is the difference between eating what you carried and eating it on a rock. It is the far end of Friday's Grotto Trail, so it will already be familiar. Saturday's picnic is the Sprouts/Sol Foods food — the Rutba containers are finished by Friday lunch.
  • Afternoon back at the room. Leela naps — the whole luxury of a multi-night stay is that you go out again afterwards instead of writing the day off.
  • Third and last empty evening. Last shuttle up 6:00pm; last bus down 7:15pm.

The spare cards, if a morning goes sideways: Court of the Patriarchs is fifty paces from shuttle stop 4 for three sandstone peaks, and the Human History Museum is entirely indoors. Neither needs anyone to walk.

Three nights, and no kitchen to prepare from

This is what changed when the 22nd landed. The old plan cooked at the townhome on the 22nd and carried meals up. Going straight from Vegas, there is no cooking beforehand — three nights of food have to come from somewhere else.

  • Sprouts, on the drive in. The one real shop, and now it is carrying you for three days rather than topping up. Buy for the mini-fridge and the shared microwave: things that are fine cold and don't need space.
  • Red Rock Grill — sautéed vegetables and the plain nightly pasta are confirmed by the manager. That is a hot dinner, not a garnish, and it covers you more than once.
  • Sol Foods, 14 minutes down-canyon. Open until 11pm and the gate code works in and out, so a restock mid-stay is a short drive, not an expedition. Salad bar, soups, sandwiches to order.
  • Castle Dome Café for grab-and-go breakfasts — though the menu rotates and October's offering is unconfirmed.

Between those four you are comfortably covered. It is less self-sufficient than the old plan and considerably less work.

🌵 The Cacti Casa, Hurricane ✓ Confirmed 13 Aug

Check in Sun 25, 4:00pm · out Mon 26, 11:00am · 2 adults + 1 child. Jordyn confirmed within the hour: "The Water Park is so fun 🤩 thanks for booking with me! I'll send your check-in details before your arrival." Free cancellation to 20 Oct. Airbnb charges the $304.30 on 12 Oct — still refundable until 20 Oct, 4pm.

Entire condo at Terra Resort · 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, 1,044 sq ft · $304.30 · Sun 25 Oct, in 4pm — Mon 26 Oct, out 11am · 2 adults + 1 child · host Jordyn will send check-in details before arrival · 5.0 from 22 reviews, Airbnb Guest Favourite, top 1% of homes

This solves the hard part. One night with two bedrooms was the constraint — vacation rentals almost all carry a 2-night minimum, and the Hurricane one-night search returned 13 properties, none of them 2-bed. This one takes a single night and has a King in the second bedroom, a bunk room for Leela, a full kitchen with a side-by-side fridge, and in-unit laundry.

And it is built for a 3-year-old. Terra Resort access comes with the condo: lazy river, waterslide, kiddie pool, sports pool, five-section hot tub, tennis and basketball, plus a heated indoor pool and hot tub — the indoor pools at the connected Coral Springs clubhouse run year-round, so late October doesn't kill it even if the outdoor lazy river is shut. The host stocks toys, books and board games, and 100% of families who stayed rated it 5 stars. The Rush Funplex — bowling, mini golf, go-karts — is two minutes away.

Five things to be aware of before booking:

  • The host has been hosting for one month. 22 five-star reviews in that time is a strong start, but it is a brand-new operator and you would be booking ten weeks out.
  • ✓ accepted Second floor, stairs, almost certainly no lift. The description says "Located on the 2nd Floor." The accessibility section lists exactly four things — disabled parking, a lit path, a 32-inch doorway, a pool hoist — and neither "step-free entrance" nor "elevator" is among them, though both are standard Airbnb tags. A host who bothered to tag a lit path would have tagged a lift. None of the six reviews Airbnb renders mentions stairs, but people only mention stairs when they are a problem, so that is not reassurance. Not a blocker for one night — you arrive at 4pm and leave in the morning, so it is an overnight bag each and the rest stays in the car. The booking message did not ask. It said only that you were coming and were excited about the water park — so this is still open. Jordyn replies within minutes; one line settles it.
  • ✓ RESOLVED 18 Aug The outdoor water park is heated and running in October. Jordyn: "The pools are heated in the outdoor waterpark. I don't advertise that because it can still be pretty chilly in the winter time… Weather is still pretty warm in October, so the pools should be fine."
  • Free cancellation until 4:00pm on 20 Oct, non-refundable after. Tighter than your usual rule, though the exposure is $304.30. The page previously said $268 — that was the pre-fee quote; the booking total is $304.30.
  • Check-in is after 4pm — and the museum plus lunch does not fill the gap. take the 2pm for +$25 With the groceries and the fuel stop built in (below), you reach the condo about 2:25. Without the 2pm check-in that is ~1.5 hours with nowhere to sit, at 26 weeks, with a toddler due a nap. $25 buys all of it back — recommended; you're deciding by 20 Oct.
  • The listing claims "Zion 20 minutes." ✗ corrected 13 Sep The condo is by I-15 exit 16, west of Hurricane itself: Zion Lodge → condo is 57 min, 36.9 miles (Google Maps). Budget an hour.

Against the alternatives: $131 more than the Holiday Inn La Verkin ($173) buys twice the space, a second bedroom, a kitchen and a waterpark. Half the price of a single night at the Springdale townhome (~$556), which is nearer the park — but you are leaving the park that morning, so proximity has stopped paying for itself.

Last morning up-canyon, then out

  • One more dawn. Fourth and final morning with the canyon to yourselves — take it.
  • Check out by 11:00 AM. Load the car first, then have a last wander.
  • Zion Human History Museum on the way out — the right last stop for this crew. Indoors, accessible, no walking, and it sits near the south entrance so it costs you nothing on the drive. Park exhibits, archival material and the park film.
  • 🎁 Gift stop — the Zion Forever Project bookstore, inside the Human History Museum (shuttle stop 2). Park books and prints, kid things for Leela, something for Vatsala. seasonal hours — confirm at the Visitor Center on Friday nps.gov, updated 10 Jul 2026
  • Sol Foods in Springdale for the salad bar, then about 45 minutes to the condo.

Pa'rus has moved to Friday. With an 11am checkout and an hour's drive ahead, a 3.4-mile round trip on the way out was always optimistic — Friday afternoon is genuinely free and the trail doesn't need the shuttle. Last shuttle drops to 5:00pm today, which no longer matters.

Reconsidered on free entertainment — and the fountains are the problem

The single biggest finding: the Bellagio Fountains will probably be compromised that week. F1 race weekend is 19–21 Nov 2026, and in every prior year the grandstand and Bellagio "Fountain Club" build goes up on the fountain-front sidewalk from mid-September. In 2025 the views were blocked for nearly three months and the show itself ran only partially — limited jets, to keep the stands dry. 2026: views blocked 15 Sep – 10 Nov But it removes the main reason anyone picks Bellagio, and it argues for building the evening around indoor free things.

What is actually free, open, and worth it on Mon 26 Oct

WhatWhereStatus
Bellagio Conservatory — fall displayBellagioFree, open 24 hrs, indoor, stroller-friendly. Fall display 19 Sep – 7 Nov 2026. The best surviving free thing, and F1 doesn't touch it
Bellagio chocolate fountainBellagio PatisserieFree to watch, daily to ~9:45pm. Toddler catnip
ARIA Fine Art CollectionARIA / Vdara / CrystalsFree, self-guided, spread across all three — Nancy Rubins' boat sculpture is at Vdara's own entrance
Wynn Lake of DreamsWynnFree from the North Show Terrace, every 30 min from dusk (~6pm) to 11:30pm. Giant animatronic frog — made for a 3-year-old

Things that are gone, or that we rule out: the pilot screenings you remembered were CBS Television City at MGM Grand — it has closed. The Venetian's Streetmosphere performers ended in December 2023, so its free-entertainment case has collapsed and the gondolas are ticketed. The Mirage volcano went with the property. And the Flamingo Wildlife Habitat, the Forum Shops aquarium and Shark Reef are all out under the no-animals-in-captivity rule — they come up on every "free Vegas" list, so worth naming so nobody suggests them again. M&M's World and Hershey's are free and toddler-friendly but you have already ruled them out as junk.

And Monday is Vegas's dark night. "O" at Bellagio is dark Mon–Tue, nothing at T-Mobile Arena, the NKOTB residency ends 17 Oct, and Monday Night Football is in Philadelphia. Nothing ticketed beats the free stuff that night — which makes where you are standing matter more than usual.

Verdict: stay at ARIA settled 14 Aug — $401 and no door

figures from 14 Aug ARIA has since been rebooked at $208.22, which only widens the gaps below.

Two facts killed the swap. The refundable Vdara rate is $401, not the ~$433 estimate but still $127 over ARIA — and the Studio Suite has no door. It is one open room. So the thing an all-suite property was supposed to buy on a night with a 3-year-old going to bed before the adults, it does not buy.

Strip that out and here is what $127 was actually purchasing:

What Vdara addsWorth $127?
An empty fridge for the Mint takeawayNo. The Sprouts cool bag is $15–25, you are buying one anyway, and hotel ice is free. It has to hold food for about fourteen hours
A separate sleeping space✗ doesn't exist No door. Open-plan studio
5-star ratingNo gain. ARIA is also 5-star, and has 11,490 reviews to Vdara's 4,368
Non-gaming, smoke-free towerCuts the wrong way. You are planning to spend the evening on a casino floor. ARIA puts it downstairs; Vdara makes it a 2–4 minute walk each way, every time you go back to the room
Closer to the free attractionsMarginal. ARIA is in the same CityCenter complex — about twelve minutes to the Conservatory instead of five

And the gap is really $157. ARIA carries a $30 Delta VIP Access resort credit, which Vdara at $401 does not offset. So the honest trade is roughly $157 for a fridge and a smoke-free lift lobby, on a night where you arrive tired from a two-hour drive, want to be in a casino, and are up at 7 the next morning.

ARIA stays. Nothing to do — it is already booked. Buy the cool bag at Sprouts on Thursday, ice it at the hotel, and put the $127 on the casino floor, which is what you said you wanted it for.

The one thing worth keeping from the Vdara research: the Bellagio Fountains will probably be compromised that week (F1 grandstand build), so the family evening should be built around the Conservatory, the chocolate fountain and the ARIA art walk — all indoor, all within about twelve minutes of ARIA's lobby — rather than around the fountains. 2026: views blocked 15 Sep – 10 Nov

The thing that makes ARIA the right answer rather than the safe one: it is connected to the Cosmopolitan indoors. Out of the ARIA lobby, through the Shops at Crystals, across the covered bridge, into Cosmo — commonly cited at 5 minutes, mostly under cover, no street, no car. some report 10 min if you miss the route

So you do not have to choose. Sleep in the certified five-star at $208, and if ARIA's own floor feels flat — its aesthetic gets called "stark and cold" — the liveliest classy room on the Strip is a covered walk away, and you are still not in a rideshare. That was the one rule you set for the evening and it holds either way.

Two more things ARIA has that Cosmo does not. It is $83–233 cheaper (Cosmo quotes between ~$419 and $569 depending on channel and room class). And it runs the best air filtration on the Strip — it is consistently named the least smoky casino floor in Las Vegas, which is not a small thing with Vatsala at 26 weeks walking through it to the lifts.

The crowd should be there. SuiteWorld 2026 is at Caesars Forum 25/26–28 Oct — about 24,000 fintech and ERP professionals on expense accounts, which is why centre-Strip pricing is compressed that night and collapses by the 28th. That is a Caesars-anchored crowd rather than an MGM one, so expect the spill rather than the epicentre at ARIA — another reason the Cosmo bridge is useful.

Ruled out, with reasons: Four Seasons ($465) — no casino of its own, and Mandalay Bay's convention centre is empty that Monday, so the floor you would walk to is at its deadest; it also charges a $62.36 resort fee despite the usual claim. Wynn ($651) — "quiet and relaxed… not a lot of people gambling." Crockfords / Resorts World ($228) — poker room closed March 2026 and the property waived resort fees to attract customers. Fontainebleau — ~49% occupancy, layoffs. Virgin ($134) — best table rules in the city, wrong crowd entirely, and the rules stopped mattering the moment this became about the night rather than the money.

on arrival Reviews report long 3pm check-in queues at both ARIA and Cosmo. You land around midday — use mobile check-in rather than standing in one.

Two corrections. Your Delta Reserve does get you into the Centurion Lounge. Amex publishes a Delta-Reserve-specific Centurion page and the benefit is current — I said it had lapsed and it hasn't. And Delta doesn't depart the A/B gates — it departs Concourse D, which is where every lounge at LAS already sits. Check-in is Terminal 1, Door 21; the gates are out in the D satellite, reached by the blue-line tram inside security. Concourse D is certain. The specific gate is not: live flight-status data shows Delta clustering in the SW wing (D33–D43), but that is an observed pattern, not a booked fact, and LAS does not assign the gate until close to the day. treat D33–D43 as likely, not known

Still true: there is no Delta Sky Club at LAS. One isn't due until 2029.

Centurion fine print that could void it: you need a same-day Delta-marketed or Delta-operated boarding pass and the flight must have been paid for with a US-issued Amex. Centurion cannot be reserved at all — there is only the on-the-day digital waitlist. You can join it remotely from the Amex app, but only inside the 3-hour window (from 6:59am), and once you get the "ready" alert you have 10 minutes to check in or you start over. The app also shows a live capacity meter — that, not the queue, is the useful part. Chase Sapphire and Capital One are pure walk-in, no booking, no queue.

My take: don't pre-book. The Club's posted capacity-restriction window is 11:00–16:00 and you land there about 8:15–9:15am — well before the crush. You would be prepaying against a low-probability event.

Is Centurion better than The Club? Yes, clearly. ~175 seats, genuinely spacious, a proper buffet; The Points Guy scored it 21/25 with seating 5/5. The Club is an above-average Priority Pass lounge — decent cold buffet, hot food ordered to your table by QR code, eggs and potatoes at breakfast.

The walk, measured off the airport's own concourse map. Concourse D is a cross: four wings off a central rotunda — SE D1 & D3–D14, NE D16–D26, SW D32–D43, NW D50–D59. It is ~2,231 ft end to end, ~10 min, with moving walkways along the wings. The Club sits at the head of the SW wing, immediately beside gate D33. Centurion sits at the head of the SE wing, beside D1 — directly across the rotunda. Scaling off the map, they are ~900 ft apart (~275 m), along the southern food-court arc: 4–5 min at normal pace, call it 6–8 for Vatsala and Leela.

Which means the tram decides it. The tram lands you in the middle of the rotunda. The Club is on your way — same wing as your likely gate. Centurion is ~450 ft in the opposite direction, so choosing it costs about 900 ft of round-trip walking on top of the gate walk you make regardless.

So: go to Centurion — but check the Amex app the moment you step off the tram. It is the better lounge by a distance, it is $30, and 900 ft with a moving walkway is a real but modest price. The failure case is walking 450 ft to a full lounge and then 900 ft back to The Club. The app shows the waitlist and the estimated wait, so look before you walk: a wait means The Club, which is on the path anyway. That single check removes the only downside.

None of this changes your own food. Buffet hot food is exactly where allium hides, so at either lounge you're on fruit and coffee. The Mint container is still the plan. What the lounge buys is a proper breakfast for Vatsala and Leela and a quiet seat before five hours in the air.

Tuesday morning current 13 Sep

  • DL333 · Tue 27 Oct, LAS 9:59am → JFK 6:12pm. Up at 7:00 — your rule — and out of ARIA by ~7:35.
  • Drive the rental back — no rideshare. The tank is full from last night, so straight to the Rent-A-Car Center, 7135 Gilespie St — via Harmon, Frank Sinatra and I-15 S, not Las Vegas Blvd (F1 lane cuts midnight–9am through 30 Oct); 10–22 min typical at 7:35 Google Maps, 29 Sep → Avis return → shuttle to Terminal 1. At the terminal ~8:15, 1 hr 45 before departure.
  • Check Leela's car seat at the Delta counter — free.
  • Breakfast is the lounge, not the room. The Mint order rides in the cool bag — dry dishes only, and tip the ice before security (see Mon 26).
  • Checkout is 11 AM but the flight is earlier, so it doesn't bind.
  • Lounge: Centurion (head of the SE wing, by D1) — you and Vatsala free, $30 for Leela. Check the Amex app waitlist as you step off the tram; if there's a wait, go to The Club at D33 instead — free, and already on the path to your gate. ~900 ft between them. If security is slow, skip the lounge.

Considered and declined: cutting a day decided 3 Sep

Vatsala raised dropping a night — skip Hurricane, drive Zion → Las Vegas direct on the Sunday, fly home Mon 26. Decision: keep the six nights. Recorded here so it doesn't get re-opened from scratch.

Cutting the day would have
Cost youThe heated water park — confirmed by Jordyn, and the one thing on this itinerary aimed squarely at Leela. Her own bedroom, the only night she gets one. And Vatsala's recovery day: the single day all week with no marble, no casino floor, nowhere to be at a time.
Cost you (money)ARIA on the Sunday is $739 against the $208.22 you hold for Monday — SuiteWorld arrivals (25–28 Oct, Caesars Forum). Keeping ARIA would have been +$531. The workable substitute was Conrad at Resorts World, $226, class 5, 8.8 — but its bed configuration was never verified, and one-King-sleeps-three is what eliminated half the Strip.
Saved youRoughly $350 on lodging, a day of car hire, a day of meals — and a materially gentler school re-entry, landing Monday rather than Tuesday before Wednesday's 7am.
Not lost either wayZion is untouched. Sunday morning still holds the museum and Sol Foods, and you would still reach Vegas about 2:45pm Pacific — you gain an hour going west.

The one practical thing that would have needed solving: Monday's Mint dinner doubles as Tuesday's plane food. Flying Monday morning would have meant carrying it from Sunday's dinner overnight, in a room with no usable fridge. Not fatal, but it was the loose end.

Jordyn already knows the shape of your trip — your booking message said "my wife, toddler and I are planning to stay at your spot on our way back from Zion to Vegas", and she replied enthusiastically about the water park. So the early-check-in ask does not need re-explaining, just asking.

✅ Jordyn replied — both questions answered 18 Aug

2pm check-in ✓ available, +$25 "I actually do the cleaning myself in between bookings, and laundry takes forever 😅 I could have it ready by 2pm if you want to pay an extra $25?"
The water park ✓ HEATED, and running "The pools are heated in the outdoor waterpark. I don't advertise that because it can still be pretty chilly in the winter time 🥶 … Weather is still pretty warm in October, so the pools should be fine."

The $25 is still your call recommended — deciding by 20 Oct Without it: museum, Sol Foods lunch, Lin's for the groceries and the Maverik fuel fill put you at the condo about 2:25pm — about an hour and a half in a car park with a tired 3-year-old. With it you walk straight in and the afternoon becomes pool time. That is the cheapest problem solved on this whole trip.

And the heated-pool answer is the bigger news. The outdoor water park was the entire reason Leela will care about this stop, and its late-October season had been flagged unconfirmed since the booking. It is heated, and Jordyn says October is fine. The indoor pool is no longer the fallback plan — it is just a spare.

Why stop at Hurricane instead of driving straight to Vegas? priced 19 Aug

Correction to what I said an hour ago. I claimed a Sunday night in Vegas costs about $520 more. That was the wrong comparison — I priced ARIA for both nights, which is the expensive way to do it. Sunday's actual one-night board is much softer:

Sun 25, one nightClassRatingTotal
Fontainebleau 30% member price59.4 (17,445)$272
Bellagio59.0$404
Four Seasons59.8$578
Cosmopolitan58.8$628
Wynn59.4$745
4-star for reference: Planet Hollywood $187 · Park MGM $204 · NYNY $207 · Paris $240

So the honest money position: Fontainebleau Sunday + ARIA Monday ≈ $628 against the current plan's ≈$635. That is a wash. The $520 gap only appears if you insist on ARIA for both nights (~$1,184), and there is no reason to. ARIA did not appear in the Sunday listing at all — possibly sold out that night

What is still true: ARIA specifically is dear on the Sunday — backing it out of the two-night total puts it near $674, because SuiteWorld delegates arrive that day (Money20/20 is the week before, 18–21 Oct). But the Strip as a whole is not, and Fontainebleau at $272 is a genuinely good room.

So the decision is not about money. It is about what Sunday should be.

What the stop actually buys, beyond the money

  • A heated water park, now confirmed. The one thing on this itinerary aimed squarely at Leela.
  • A genuine rest day for Vatsala. Two bedrooms, a full kitchen, a pool, no marble, no casino floor, no walking. It is the only day of the week like that, and it sits between four days in the canyon and a Vegas night.
  • It halves the driving day. Lodge → the condo is about an hour; the condo → Vegas is two hours the next morning. One long push becomes two short ones.
  • Leela gets her own room for a night, which she does not get anywhere else on this trip.

What it costs: one extra hotel change, and one flight of stairs with no lift — accepted, and mitigated by taking only overnight bags up. Everything else stays in the car.

The two versions of Sunday, priced level

For VatsalaA genuine rest day — kitchen, pool, no marble, no casino floor, no walkingA second Vegas evening on hard floors
DownsideOne flight of stairs, no liftTwo full Vegas days with a 3-year-old

Verdict: keep Hurricane — but on the right grounds. Not because it is cheaper, because it is not really. Because Sunday is the only recovery day in the week. It sits between four days in the canyon and a Vegas night that ends with a 7:00am alarm, and it is the one day nobody has to walk on marble, queue for anything, or be somewhere at a time. Adding two and a half hours of driving and a second Strip evening spends exactly the day you most need to keep.

What has genuinely weakened: the kitchen argument. Thai Sapa, Rutba and Mint are all confirmed now, so you are no longer depending on cooking there. What has strengthened: the water park is confirmed heated, and Jordyn will have the unit ready at 2pm — so the afternoon is real pool time rather than a wait. Free cancellation until 4:00pm on 20 Oct if you change your mind.

💳 The VIP Access credit — confirmed real from the booking, 18 Aug

Your booking states it plainly: "Your VIP Access benefits at this stay — $30 resort credit per room, per stay." I briefly talked myself out of this after reading the public listing, where the only "$30" is the refundability surcharge. The signed-in booking is the authority and it says otherwise.

Delta Stays total all-in$208.22
Resort fee + property fees already inside the total($62.36)
VIP Access resort credit− $30.00
Effective after credit$178.22

What VIP Access gets you at ARIA, in full:

  • $30 resort credit per room, per stay — a property credit for on-site spend, posted to the room.
  • Room upgrades, early check-in and late check-out — "when available". Discretionary, so ask at the desk rather than assuming; a Monday in a convention week is not the best odds.
  • A tier discount of 15%+ on VIP Access properties, but only at Silver tier or higher.

What it actually buys — and two things that could sink it

How these normally work: a property credit is spent on-site by charging to your room, and it comes off the bill at checkout. MGM's own credits are described as covering room charges — dining, spa, entertainment, and in some cases the resort fee, redeemed at an MGM Rewards desk. general MGM guidance, not ARIA-specific terms

But two things bite specifically on a one-night stay, and neither is documented anywhere I can find:

  1. Does it cover the resort fee? If yes, that is the perfect use — $30 straight off your $62.36, guaranteed, zero effort, nothing to remember. If no, you have to go and spend it.
  2. When does it activate? Some MGM food-and-beverage credits start the calendar day after check-in. On a one-night stay that would leave you only Tuesday morning — and you leave at 7:35am, so it would be all but worthless.

So: ask one question at the front desk when you check in. "I have a $30 resort credit on this booking — can it go against the resort fee, and is it usable tonight?" Thirty seconds, and it settles both. Do it at check-in, not checkout — at 7am on departure day it is too late to change plan.

If you do have to spend it, your window is narrow. You arrive ~4pm, eat at Mint at 5pm off-property, do Bellagio with V&L, then the tables. So the realistic uses are drinks on the casino floor, or something for Vatsala and Leela at an ARIA outlet on the way back from the Conservatory. Tuesday breakfast is not the answer — you will be in the Centurion Lounge by 8:00 anyway.

⚠️ Correction: the resort fee was double-counted fixed 8 Sep

I had been adding $62.36 on top of Delta's total. It was already inside it. The receipt breaks the $208.22 down like this:

Room, Mon 26 Oct$78.64
Taxes & fees$17.22
Extra guest — Leela; ARIA charges $50 per person beyond two$50.00
Resort fee payable at property$55.00
Fees payable at property$7.36
Total$208.22

So: $145.86 goes to Delta, $62.36 is collected at the property, and $208.22 is the whole cost. After the $30 credit, $178.22.

Two things this reveals. The "$62.36 resort fee" is really $55.00 resort fee plus $7.36 of other property fees. And there is a $50 extra-guest charge for Leela — ARIA counts anyone 20 or under as a child and bills $50 per person beyond two. That is 24% of the booking, and it was never visible on the search page.

The Venetian was recorded correctly ✓ checked 8 Sep

Room, Wed 21 Oct$126.19
Taxes & fees$16.89
Resort fee at property$55.00
Fees at property$7.36
Total$205.44

$126.19 + $16.89 = the $143.08 already on this page, and $205.44 is the all-in. The split was right; the error was ARIA-only.

One difference worth noting: the Venetian bills no extra-guest charge for Leela. ARIA charges $50. Same family, same night count — one property counts a three-year-old as a billable guest and the other doesn't. The Venetian booking also carries a $33.80 discount already applied and earns 882 miles, including a Summer Sale bonus.

Venetian perks — better than ARIA's ✓ 8 Sep

Gold Medallion gets you $45 there, against $30 at ARIA:

  • $20 beverage credit per room, per stay
  • $25 casino credit per room, per stay — you are at the tables that night anyway after Crossroads, so this is $25 you would have spent regardless
  • Free room upgrade when available · late check-out subject to availability

Neither is automatic — mention your status at check-in to collect. Same as ARIA's $30. Property confirmation 462313581247, separate from Delta itinerary 73508401569624 — use the property number if you ever need to call the Venetian direct rather than Delta.

From the fine print: ARIA counts anyone 20 and under as a child, and the room maximum is 3 people total. You are exactly at capacity — no room for a fourth if plans ever shift. Extra-guest fee is $50 per person.

Worth repeating the method: the rate is refundable to 23 Oct, so re-checking it periodically costs nothing and the downside is zero. Book the new rate first, then cancel the old — never the reverse.

Mon 26 — SETTLED: ARIA, Deluxe King ✓ closed 18 Aug

Opening up two-queen rooms was worth testing, and the answer is: it unlocks nothing better. The reason is one fact I had never put on this page — ARIA's Deluxe King officially sleeps 3. The occupancy problem that ruled out Park MGM and The Reserve was never ARIA's problem.

ARIA wins on almost everything that matters here. It is $176 cheaper, the room is 114 sq ft bigger, the casino is better for the night you actually want, and you are holding a rate $111 below today's market. The Reserve's advantages are real but narrow: a higher review score on a much smaller sample, and a genuinely smoke-free tower.

The one case where The Reserve wins

If two queens is something you actively want rather than merely tolerate — Vatsala and Leela in one bed, you in the other, which at 26 weeks is a fair thing to prefer — then note what it costs at ARIA: the Deluxe Two Queen is $393 + $62.36 = $455.36. The Reserve delivers two queens for $384.69, about $70 less.

  • King is fine → stay at ARIA. $208.22 all-in (rebooked 8 Sep), biggest room, best casino, nothing to do.
  • Two queens genuinely wanted → The Reserve at $385 beats ARIA's own two-queen at $455.

✅ Decided: the King is fine, so ARIA stays. A 520 sq ft King that officially sleeps three is not a compromise — it is the largest room in this comparison and the cheapest. Nothing to do.

This is closed — do not re-open it. Every Vegas alternative has now been priced for 26 Oct at the real occupancy: Park MGM, The Reserve, Vdara, Wynn, Encore, Bellagio, Cosmopolitan, Four Seasons, Fontainebleau, Conrad, Waldorf Astoria, Venetian, Palazzo. ARIA at $208.22 all-in — effectively $178.22 after the VIP credit — is the best combination of room size, casino and price available that night. The 23 Oct free-cancellation date is now just a safety net, not a decision point.

Why not the obvious ones

  • Park MGM (the 4.0-star tower) — a King Strip View is available on 26 Oct at $211 total, but it is Sleeps 2 and everything else is two queens.
  • The Reserve at Park MGM ✗ two corrections, 18 Aug — this is a separate 5-star property (Delta lists it "Property class: 5 and above · Luxury", 9.2 from 804 reviews); it is the NoMad boutique hotel above Park MGM, and I wrongly applied Park MGM's 4.0 rating to it. I then wrongly said the sold-out objection was stale — it is not. On 26 Oct every King is sold out: Atelier, Classic King, Grande Suite and Classic Accessible King, all four. Only two-queen rooms remain — Classic Two Queen $305 and Salon Double $433, plus a $56.69 resort fee. Genuinely lovely otherwise: non-smoking, hardwood, quiet halls, private pool, "loved by families". It fails on the bed, not the hotel.
  • Marriott's Grand Chateau — the $258 rate is a studio; the real 1-bedroom villa is $371, and refundable costs $464. Only 3.5-star.
  • Jockey Club — $192 and three minutes from Bellagio, but 3.5-star, four different management companies renting individually owned units, and the door could never be confirmed.
  • Bonvoy points — every Strip property redeems at 0.42–0.56¢ against a 0.7–0.85¢ baseline. Pay cash.

Why the end date stays at the 27th. Shortening it to a 26 Oct return saves about $30. Keeping it buys the right to hand the car back any time on Monday evening — or on Tuesday morning — which is the plan: you drive yourselves to the airport, no rideshare. Every meal, planned

The rule. Adithya is strict vegan and Jain: no meat, dairy, egg or honey, and no onion, garlic, leek, chive, scallion or shallot, and no mushroom. Vatsala and Leela are ordinary vegetarians and eat dairy. Allium is the constraint that actually bites — it hides in stocks, sauces, dressings, spice blends and anything a menu calls a "vegetable base."

Thai SapaPhone (435) 772-0510✓ CONFIRMED 14 Aug — the Springdale anchor. Cooks Jain, no onion or garlic, tofu available, and "pretty much any dish can be made vegan on request." Open 11:30am–9:30pm daily, does takeaway. Took four attempts — the quiet ~6pm call landed it.
Bit & SpurPhone (435) 772-3498✗ NO — asked and answered 14 Aug. Staff took it to the chef. Best offer was salad with vinegar, or plain salmon. "Mostly everything has garlic." Crossed off; don't re-vet.

Both blockers are now answered.

  • Mint — the menu does the work, but one call is still worth it. Dishes carry (J) for Jain ("no onions, garlic and/or potatoes") and vegan items are labelled separately. Stronger than anywhere else on the trip — and as of 19 Sep Chana Masala and Vegan Aloo Gobi Masala carry both marks, so the intersection is on the menu. For the two dinners you can sort that at the table. For the flight takeaway you cannot — that meal has no fallback at 35,000 feet. One call: which dishes are both, and will they pack it. (702) 894-9334
  • The ARIA room has no usable fridge. confirmed The Deluxe King has a fully stocked minibar with no space for your own food — the same trap Virgin had. Only the higher suites get a separate fridge. Bring the Sprouts cool bag and it stops mattering; hotel ice is free. Worth also asking housekeeping to clear the minibar, which is a routine request. (702) 590-7111

Everything else is covered. Sixteen of the twenty travel meals are self-catered or venue-confirmed. The Zion days rest on Sprouts, a confirmed Red Rock Grill, and a Sol Foods run 14 minutes down-canyon — no single place has to say yes.

The two flights are the sharpest edges

DL807 out (11:25am–2:08pm) and especially DL333 home (9:59am–6:12pm, 5 hr 13 in the air). Delta's vegan option is not Jain. Airside at LAS, Concourse D has Jamba and Rachel's Kitchen — a smoothie is the safe ask, and neither is a meal; allium status unchecked. Carry a full meal onto both. Bread, nut butter, fruit, plain crisps, a proper cooked item in a container. The return leg's food is Monday night's Mint order — dry dishes only, because TSA treats dal and gravy as liquids.

Candidates — the early outreach (outcomes in the Final picture)

Zion Lodge — Red Rock Grill ✓ answered 8 & 11 Aug — see Fri 23

Inside the park · 833-778-9290 · frontdesk@zionlodge.com

The highest-value vetting on the trip. Two nights up-canyon with the gate behind you and no way to pop out — five meals ride on this. If they can do an allium-free vegan main, the carried-food load halves.

The draft asks the cuisine-specific question — stock and sauce, not just "no onion" — and asks whether Castle Dome Café is open in late October. It also folds in the gate-code timing question, so it's one email doing two jobs.

Whiptail Grill sent 7 Aug from adithyabanavar@ — no reply

Mexican · 445 Zion Park Blvd · daily 11:30am–9:30pm · (435) 772-0283 · whiptailgrill@yahoo.com

Highest allium risk of the three, so the draft asks about the four places it actually hides in Mexican cooking: the bean base, whether the rice is cooked in sofrito, whether any salsa is allium-free, and whether they can plate something filling without it.

The draft explicitly offers them the honest out — that the family can eat freely while Adithya eats lightly. A clear "no" here is worth more than a vague "we'll try."

☎️ Call brief — the three phone-only places

Menus scanned 7 Aug. Open with the constraint, then one open question — the same shape as the email that works. The place-specific line is what turns a shrug into a useful answer.

Opening line, all three:
"I'm strictly vegan and I also don't eat any onion, garlic, leek, chive, scallion or shallot — no allium at all — and no mushroom. My wife and 3-year-old are ordinary vegetarians and eat dairy. Would you have anything for me?"

Then the place-specific follow-up:

  • Park House Cafe — "Your site says everything's made from scratch daily — does that mean the kitchen could leave the onion and garlic out of something, rather than picking from a fixed menu?"
Why: from-scratch is the single best predictor of allium flexibility. This is the one most likely to say yes — lead with the compliment and give them room to be helpful.
  • MeMe's Cafe — "I gather the crêpes aren't vegan. I've read you have a vegan patty and a vegan meatloaf — do those contain onion or garlic? And could the kitchen do a plain scramble of potatoes and vegetables with no seasoning blend?"
Why: their vegan items are processed products — a Beyond-style patty, vegan chorizo crumbles — and those nearly always contain allium. The real question is whether they'll cook from raw ingredients instead. One reviewer got a custom veg-and-potato scramble, so it's clearly possible.
  • FeelLove Coffee (St George, drive day) — "Which of your pastries are actually vegan? And do you have oat milk?"
Why: French pastry runs on butter and egg wash, so "we have vegan options" often means the savoury menu, not the pastry case. Sweet baked goods are usually allium-free by nature, so vegan is the only axis that needs checking here — this is the easy one.

Record every answer on this page, including the noes and the no-answers. A definitive "no" is worth as much as a yes — it stops the place being re-suggested and re-called.

🍽️ Final picture — the vetting is done 17 Aug

Every meal on this trip now has a confirmed answer or a named fallback. Two outstanding, both minor.

🎰 Las Vegas

Rutba ✅ CHEF-CONFIRMED
5115 Spring Mountain Rd · (702) 202-1444
Dal, chana masala, and ghee-free roti. The roti matters more than it looks — it is bread you can actually eat, and it travels. Same-floor parking, so the second-floor stairs worry is dead. This is Thursday lunch and Thursday dinner.
Terrace Pointe, Wynn ✅ Tofu scramble minus onion and mushroom; coconut chia oats, no honey. Backup now that the 4th floor is confirmed.
Mint ✅ CONFIRMED
730 E Flamingo · dinner 5:00–10:45pm
Jain and vegan confirmed together — the question the menu couldn't answer. Dishes settled at the table. Monday dinner and the flight food.
Crossroads ⚠️ booked anyway Cacio e pepe + grilled sourdough. No allium-free protein — you knew this and took it for the room and for V&L. Wed 21, 5:00pm.
POMA 🚶 walk up No phone line at all. Four questions stored for the counter: no honey, is the base sweetened, what binds the granola, is the protein powder vegan.
Eataly ⚠️ unresolved Willing every time, never got audio through. A telephony fault, not a refusal. Off the plan — nothing depends on it.
Juice Farm 🚫 closed Shut, and the number has been reassigned to a stranger. Don't redial it. POMA took the unit.

🏜️ Zion and Springdale

Thai Sapa ✅ THE ANCHOR
198 Zion Park Blvd · 11:30am–9:30pm daily
Jain cooking, tofu, made to order. The one reliable dinner in Springdale — and with Rutba covering Thursday and the Grill covering Friday, it carries Saturday, collected on a down-canyon run.
Red Rock Grill ✅ Sautéed vegetables, plain nightly pasta, Emerald Pools salad with oil and vinegar. In the lodge — the zero-effort option.
Sol Foods ✅ Store to 11pm, but the deli and salad bar close earlier — check before a late restock. Sunday lunch on the way out, and the mid-stay restock.
Wild Thyme ⚠️ near-miss = no The yellow curry is vegan, but the sauce carries garlic and onion powder. Worth recording precisely: it failed on the powder, which is exactly the ingredient kitchens forget to mention. Crossed off.
Bit & Spur ❌ Chef checked personally — everything has garlic. Don't re-vet.
Park House 🚶 walk in Voicemail-only line. 8am–2pm, so it is a to-go lunch anyway — walk in and ask at the counter. Nothing lost.
Spotted Dog no result recorded Was being called on 17 Aug; no outcome made it onto the page. Optional — Thai Sapa already covers Springdale.
Oscar's Cafe not called Labelled vegan menu. Genuinely optional now — Thai Sapa and Red Rock Grill cover the canyon. Ask about the sweet potato burrito if you pass it; refuse the honey dill vinaigrette.

What this settles

  • Thursday is no longer conditional. Rutba is chef-confirmed, so lunch there plus the canyon takeaway is the plan, not a hope. Same-floor parking also removes the only accessibility question that was open.
  • Monday is settled. Mint does Jain and vegan together — dinner at 5:00pm and the flight food in one sitting.
  • Springdale narrowed to one. Wild Thyme joins Bit & Spur as a no, so Thai Sapa is the only confirmed Springdale dinner and Red Rock Grill is the in-house backup. That is enough for three nights, but it is thin — which is the one argument for still calling Oscar's.
  • Two walk-ins, zero risk. POMA and Park House both refuse to be phoned and both are counter transactions where the worst case is ordering something else.

The pattern worth keeping for next time: the wins came from asking one precise question and reading the answer back — "is the base sweetened", "what is the egg substitute", "can you do Jain and vegan on the same dish". The near-misses came from the ingredient nobody volunteers: Wild Thyme's onion powder, JUST Egg's dehydrated onion, FeelLove's seasoned potatoes. Powders and seasonings are where this diet actually fails, not the obvious dishes.

🚨 Five things this plan was missing independent audit, 15 Aug

A second pass over the whole trip found five real problems. Two of them are mine.

1. There is no car seat anywhere in this plan legally required

Leela is 3 years 10 months and needs a child restraint in the rental car — in both Nevada and Utah. The plan books an Avis car for six days and never mentions a seat. Bring your own rather than renting one: Delta checks car seats free, it works in the rental and in any Vegas taxi, and it removes the problem below. Renting one from Avis means you have no seat the moment the car goes back.

2. Monday contradicts itself — you return the car, then drive to dinner

The plan returns the rental on Monday and then has you "drive ~10 min" to Mint. Keep the car until Tuesday morning instead. Self-park at ARIA, drive to dinner, and return it on the way to the airport: up 7:00, out of ARIA ~7:35, car back ~7:50, Terminal 1 ~8:15. That is 1 hr 45 before departure and deletes two taxi legs and the car-seat problem.

And navigate to the right Mint. There are two — the one you want is 730 E Flamingo Rd, about 10 minutes from ARIA. The branch that comes up first in search is 4246 S Durango Dr, which is 25 minutes west. Put Flamingo in the phone before you set off.

3. Utah is on Mountain Time — an hour ahead of Vegas every Utah time on this page

You lose an hour crossing into Utah on Thursday and get it back on Monday. Every Utah timestamp here — the 11am tram, the 4pm Airbnb check-in, the lodge arrival — is Mountain. The Thursday drive is the one that bites: leaving the Venetian at 11am Pacific puts you at the lodge around 5:30–6pm Mountain, and sunset on 22 Oct is about 6:47pm with the canyon floor in shadow well before that. re-timed 29 Sep The plan now leaves Rutba at 12:10 with a 30-minute Mesquite break and reaches the lodge ~6:00pm MT — daylight, but only just. The hard floor is 12:30.

The upside nobody mentions: moving to Mountain Time actually helps. It cuts Leela's offset from three hours to two, so the Zion days are the easy sleep days — 6–6:30am wakes, and an 11am tram that is 9am on her body clock. Expect a 5–5:30am wake on Wednesday and Thursday regardless of the never-before-7 rule; that rule governs alarms, not jet-lagged toddlers. Buy breakfast things Wednesday night so the early start is survivable.

4. Sunday has a hole in it before check-in

re-timed 29 Sep The 30-minute figure here was Springdale to Hurricane town. The leg you actually drive is Zion Lodge → the condo: 57 minutes, 36.9 miles (Google, 13 Sep) — the condo sits west of Hurricane by I-15 exit 16. So the real Sunday: check out 11am, museum ~40 min, Sol Foods lunch, and you reach the condo about 2:25pm — roughly 1.5 hours before a 4pm check-in (with the grocery and fuel stops), with a toddler whose nap fits nowhere and nowhere to put her down. Take Jordyn’s 2pm check-in for +$25.

  • Message Jordyn now and ask for a 2pm check-in in writing. Sunday is the hardest turnover day, so get the answer before you travel, not on the doorstep.
  • If it's a no: take the long way deliberately — the Sand Hollow reservoir loop adds about 25 minutes — so Leela car-naps and you arrive at 3:30 instead of sitting in a car park.
  • Don't fill the gap with walking. Sunday is the week's only recovery day for Vatsala's feet.

5. No stroller — so the distances have to come down instead decided 15 Aug

Leela walks everywhere, taking breaks. That is a reasonable call at nearly four — but it is a real constraint, not a neutral one, and the plan has to absorb it rather than ignore it. Three specific consequences, all handled below:

  • Every out-and-back becomes a turnaround, not a destination. The failure mode is not tiredness at the halfway point — it is tiredness at the far end, a mile from the bus, with only Adithya able to carry her. Vatsala cannot be the backup at 26 weeks.
  • Saturday drops from 2.7 miles on her legs to about 1.5. See the revised Saturday.
  • Monday moves onto the tram. The one verified fix that removes a mile of marble outright.

Where the breaks actually are, so this is a plan and not a hope: Riverside Walk has repeated river-access points to stop and throw stones (hands and feet only in the water — cyanobacteria advisory); the Grotto has a dozen shaded picnic tables; every shuttle stop has benches and restrooms; and Pa'rus runs along the river with places to sit the whole way. None of these days needs her to walk more than about twenty minutes without somewhere to stop.

Smaller, still worth doing

  • Cold-morning layers. Zion canyon shade in late October is upper-30s to low-40s. The 9am Saturday start and the open-air tram both need real jackets, hats and gloves. Nothing in the plan mentions clothing.
  • No hot tubs. Venetian, ARIA and the Hurricane resort all have them, and the Airbnb complex is hot-tub-forward. Hard no at 26 weeks.
  • Casino smoke. Use the Venetian's Grand Canal Shoppes entrance and ARIA's north Promenade entrance rather than routing the family across the gaming floor to the lifts.
  • The 24–28 week glucose screen falls almost exactly on these dates. Schedule it before 21 Oct or straight after you're back, and clear the trip at the ~24-week visit. visits being booked 21 Sep, around the trip
  • Wednesday 28 Oct is a school morning. You land 6:12pm Eastern, which is 3:12pm on her body clock — she will not sleep before ~10:30pm. Pre-decide that Wednesday is a home day or a late drop-off rather than discovering it at 7am.

🤰 26-week audit — what this plan was missing added 15 Aug

Four gaps, none of which are about the walking. The hiking on this trip is genuinely gentle. What was missing is the boring infrastructure around it.

1. There is no medical line on this page, and the canyon has no signal

ForWhereFrom the lodge
EmergencySt George Regional Hospital — Level II Trauma Center, labour & delivery, Level III NICU · 435-251-100051 miles, ~1 hr 6 Google, 13 Sep
Not an emergencyFamily Healthcare Zion Canyon Medical Clinic, Springdale — just outside the park entrance. weekdays 8–5 only Closed Sat 24 and Sun 25; at the weekend it is St George Regional (L&D) or 911~19 min down-canyon
In the parkRangers — dial 911, or the Visitor Center desk—

From the other bases Google Maps, 13 Sep — Las Vegas: Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center, 3186 S Maryland Pkwy, has labour & delivery and a Level III NICU · (702) 961-5000 · 12 min from the Venetian, 16 min from ARIA. Hurricane: the Cacti Casa is 12 min (9.7 miles) from St George Regional. Food safety for Vatsala (CDC's listeria list): skip store-made deli salads, raw sprouts, and cut melon that has sat out.

Much of the canyon has no mobile signal and the lodge runs on satellite Wi-Fi. At 26 weeks that is worth one minute of preparation: save the hospital address offline, and tell the front desk you are pregnant at check-in so someone at the lodge knows. The gate code means you can drive out at any hour — that is the thing that actually matters here, and you already have it.

2. The first two hours of Thursday's drive have no planned stop

Both named stops — FeelLove and Sprouts — are in St George, which is the same town about two hours in. So as written, the plan is Las Vegas to St George in one run. At 26 weeks that is too long: sitting still raises clot risk and the bladder does not negotiate. Plan a stop around Mesquite, roughly the halfway point, and treat it as mandatory even if nobody has asked for it. Get out, walk around the car, then carry on.

The same applies in reverse on Sunday (Zion Lodge → the condo, ~1 hr) and Monday (Hurricane → Las Vegas, ~2 hrs). One stop each, no exceptions.

3. Compression socks, and the flights

Five hours out and five back at 26 weeks, plus four hours of driving in between. Compression socks and an aisle seat are the standard answer and neither is on this page. Get up and walk the cabin once an hour on DL807 and DL333. No airline restriction applies — Delta has none, and the 28-week threshold some carriers use falls on 8 November, well after you are home.

4. The plantar fasciitis load is in the wrong places

The trails are not the problem — the floors are. Running the week's total: Grotto Trail 1 mi, Pa'rus up to 3.4, Riverside Walk 2.0 — about 6.4 miles of actual trail across four days, all of it flat or paved. corrected 29 Sep Weeping Rock’s 0.4 used to be in this total; it was cut on 15 Aug, and with it the only staircase. Gentle.

Then add the surfaces nobody counts: two airports, the Rent-A-Car Center shuttle, the Venetian's own corridors, and Monday's ARIA → Bellagio → ARIA evening, which is over a mile on hard casino floor with no natural place to sit. Casino and terminal floors are worse for plantar fasciitis than trail — unforgiving, dead flat, and you cannot stop when you want to.

  • Monday is the day to protect, not Saturday. Build the Conservatory evening as one loop out and back with a sit-down in the middle, not a wander.
  • Cutting the Wynn breakfast walk already saves a 20-minute indoor round trip on the day of the four-hour drive. That was half the reason for the call.
  • Pa'rus is the one to shorten if feet are complaining — it is out-and-back by design, so turning round at half a mile costs nothing and is not a failure.

What is genuinely fine

The tram is seated with a restroom stop. Riverside Walk is 57 feet of gain over two miles. Pa'rus is paved and turn-back-anytime. The lodge puts you inside the park so there is no daily commute, and the gate code works in and out at any hour. Sunday and the Human History Museum ask nothing of anyone. The Cacti Casa stairs are one flight, once, with overnight bags only — accepted, and the right call for a single night. None of this needs changing.

🎙️ Calls — done, and what's left 17 Aug

The phone campaign is essentially finished. Nine venues worked, and the scripts that landed all had the same shape: one precise question, then read the answer back.

📞 Oscar's Cafe · (435) 772-3232 the last one worth making

948 Zion Park Blvd, Springdale · open 7am–9pm weekend hours unconfirmed — ask Best time: mid-afternoon between services, 2–4pm MT (4–6pm ET).

Set expectations first: this is a Mexican kitchen, so it may well be a no. Salsa, beans and rice almost always carry onion and garlic, and the sweet potato burrito everyone recommends is listed with onions and a green sauce — so the dish we were going to ask for is itself the problem. Ask anyway; a recorded no is worth as much as a yes.

"Hi — I'm coming to Springdale in late October and I've read your menu marks what's vegan, which is why I'm calling rather than just turning up.

I'm vegan, and separately I can't have any onion or garlic — including onion powder or garlic powder in a seasoning or a spice mix, which is the part that usually catches people out. Also no shallot, scallion, chive or mushroom. It's religious, not an allergy.

My main question: is there anything the kitchen could make me with no onion or garlic in it at all? I know that's hard with Mexican food.

Three specific ones, if it helps:

— I've read about the sweet potato burrito, but I've also seen it listed with onions and a green sauce. Could the sweet potato filling be made without the onion, and served without the sauce?

— Are your beans cooked with onion or garlic — and are they cooked in lard or in oil?

— Is your rice plain, or is it cooked in a broth or with onion?

And one small thing: if a salad comes up, I can't have honey, so not the honey dill vinaigrette.

Last question — what are your hours at weekends in late October? I'll be there Thursday the 22nd through Sunday the 25th.

Thanks very much."

What a good answer sounds like: a named dish, plus confirmation that the beans are oil-not-lard and free of onion. Read it back before hanging up — that is what made Thai Sapa, Rutba and Terrace Pointe stick. What decides it: if there is one solid plate here, Springdale goes from one confirmed dinner to two across three nights, which is the whole reason for the call. If not, you have lost nothing — Thai Sapa and Red Rock Grill already cover you, and you can stop wondering about Oscar's.

Two things left, both optional

  1. Spotted Dog no result recorded — optional.
  2. Oscar's Cafe — script above. Wild Thyme's failure left Thai Sapa as your only confirmed Springdale dinner across three nights, with Red Rock Grill in-house as the fallback. That works, but it is thin.

Two walk-ins — do not phone

POMA (no phone line exists) and Park House (voicemail only). Both are counter transactions where the worst case is ordering something else. POMA's four questions: no honey, is the base sweetened, what binds the granola, is the protein powder vegan. Park House: it is 8am–2pm, so it is a to-go lunch — ask when you are there.

The lesson worth keeping

The wins came from asking one precise question and reading the answer back. The near-misses all came from the ingredient nobody volunteers — Wild Thyme's onion powder, JUST Egg's dehydrated onion, FeelLove's seasoned potatoes. Powders and seasonings are where this diet fails, not the obvious dishes. Ask about the seasoning, not just the recipe.

Park House Cafe Phone only — call

1880 Zion Park Blvd · (435) 772-0100 · hours unresolved — ask first

I had "Mon–Fri, closed weekends" here and I can't stand that up. Their own site publishes no hours at all; Yelp (updated Jul 2026) shows Fri & Sat 8am–10pm with dinner in season, and open Sunday. Those can't both be right, and it changes which day this is. Question one on the call.

The most promising of the three. Their own site says they "specialize in vegetarian & vegan" and that everything is made from scratch daily — a kitchen that cooks from raw is far likelier to leave the allium out than one opening jars.

If the Fri/Sat dinner service is real, Fri 23 opens up as well as Mon 26. Settle the hours, then the allium.

FeelLove Coffee Zion In Springdale itself

1101 Zion Park Blvd, Ste A · daily 6am–8pm · (435) 772-5980 · Instagram @feellovecoffeezion

There's a branch in Springdale, not just the St George one. Same group that advertises "vegan and organic breakfast, lunch and dinner" — so this is the fourth Springdale option, and the only one that says vegan unprompted.

6am opening is the useful part — it's the only place in Springdale open early enough for a proper breakfast before a canyon day. The 8pm close means it works for an early dinner on a lodge night if you come down by 5.

MeMe's Cafe Replied 8 Aug — thin

975 Zion Park Blvd · daily 8am–9pm · (435) 772-0114 · IG @memescafezion

MeMe answered the DM personally, and honestly: "We can make some substitutions, but we have a small kitchen and restaurant so our options limited." No dish named — she pointed at the menu.

So I read it. What vegans actually report eating here: a vegan patty (on a salad, or on lettuce when the bun won't do), a house-made vegan meatloaf with mash and veg, and salads. Buns and fries are not vegan. One reviewer found "only 1 option that could be made vegan by subtraction."

And that is all before allium. A veggie patty and a vegan meatloaf are precisely the two things that carry onion and garlic. Strip those and MeMe's is a salad — the same place we landed with Red Rock Grill. Keep it as the late-hours fallback it always was, not a dinner plan.

Oscar's Cafe New — best vegan menu in town

948 Zion Park Blvd · daily 7am–8pm · (435) 772-3232

This surfaced from a vegan reviewer who left MeMe's and came here instead, and it was not on this page. Mexican and American, and the menu labels vegan items explicitly — salads, enchiladas, burritos and burgers. Named vegan dishes: sweet potato burrito, black bean guac salad, portobello avocado sandwich (and an Impossible burger).

Two catches, both real. The portobello is out on mushroom. And Oscar's Dill Vinaigrette contains honey — it arrives on the side salad that comes with a burrito, so it has to be refused explicitly.

The bigger question is cuisine. Mexican is the hardest kitchen in the world for allium — onion and garlic are in the salsa, the guac, the beans and the enchilada sauce. A labelled-vegan menu solves half the problem and says nothing about the other half. Worth a call precisely because they clearly think about diets. Ask about the sweet potato burrito — whole food, and the most likely thing to survive an onion-and-garlic strip. not the Impossible burger Ultra-processed, and not what you want to be eating on a hiking week.

📍 One block does all of it

Oscar's (948), MeMe's (975) and Sol Foods (995) are on the same stretch of Zion Park Blvd — a few hundred feet apart. So the Springdale food question is really one short walk: try a restaurant, and if it doesn't work, Sol Foods is open until 11pm on the same block. That is a much better safety net than the plan we had, which was a 27-mile drive to Hurricane.

FeelLove Coffee ✓ Answered in full, 13 Aug

558 E Riverside Dr, St George · Thu 6am–7pm · (435) 922-1717

Now the most solidly-vetted place on the trip. They replied on Instagram with an itemised list rather than a vague reassurance, and volunteered what you cannot have — the mark of a kitchen that actually understands the question.

For you: avo toast without the everything seasoning, the VLT avo toast same way, the vegan protein bowl, vegan parfait, and a shelf of vegan pastries — coffee cake, carrot cake bite, chocolate chip and matcha white chocolate cookies, donuts, salted tahini bar. For Vatsala and Leela: the vegan breakfast burrito and the vegetarian breakfast croissant.

The one exclusion, in their words: "the potato's have garlic & onion seasoning" — so the breakfast burrito is theirs, not yours.

Originally advertised as "vegan and organic breakfast, lunch and dinner" plus French pastries — the only place on the route that says it unprompted. Ask which pastries are genuinely vegan (butter and egg wash are the traps) and whether they have oat milk.

Mint Indian Bistro — Mon 26 and the flight food ✓ booked 5pm · phone-confirmed 17 Aug

730 E Flamingo Rd, Ste 9 & 10 · (702) 894-9334 · map

Hours — corrected ✗ the page said 3pm–midnight

Open 7 days including holidays, but service is split, not continuous:

Lunch buffet
11:00am – 2:45pm — a buffet, so useless to you: cross-contamination and no Jain+vegan guarantee
Dinner
5:00pm – 10:45pm — this is your window
Closed between
2:45pm – 5:00pm

So Monday's dinner cannot start before 5:00pm. That happens to be exactly the time you want — early enough to get Leela down before the 7:00 alarm — but it is a floor, not a preference. Arrive at 5:00 sharp and order the flight takeaway at the same sitting.

And go to the right one. There is a second Mint at 4246 S Durango Dr which is 25 minutes west and comes up first in search. Flamingo is the 10-minute one.

Does the menu answer the question? ✓ yes now — re-read 19 Sep

Mint publishes both axes and never crosses them. The legend is real and it is good:

  • (J) = Jain — "Jain preparations do not include onions, garlic and/or potatoes"
  • Vegan — "All our vegan preparations use dairy substitutes such as organic soy products or almond milk"

Two dishes now carry both marks current menu, read 19 Sep 2026 — so this is no longer the Rutba problem:

  • Chana Masala — V, VN, G, J, H
  • Vegan Aloo Gobi Masala — V, VN, G, J
  • Vegan but not marked Jain: Dal Tadka (the tadka is the problem — ask for it Jain-style), Vegan Tandoori Roti, Jeera Rice, Plain Rice, Vegan Veggie Biryani, Vegan Masala Dosa, Vegan Vegetable Samosa.

Their legend: "Jain preparations do not include onions, garlic, and/or potatoes" · "Vegan preparations use dairy substitutes such as organic soy products or almond milk, without ghee or eggs." The "and/or" is loose, so still say it at the table: no onion, no garlic, no mushroom.

Where Mint is genuinely better than Rutba, though: that vegan legend proves the kitchen already stocks dairy substitutes — soy products, almond milk — as standing practice. So converting a (J) dish to vegan is a swap they have the ingredients for (ghee → oil, cream → soy or almond), not a special favour. Rutba answered the same question by phone on 17 Aug (ghee-free roti, dal, chana masala), so both kitchens are covered.

The call is one question: "Can you make a (J) Jain dish using your vegan substitutes — no ghee, no cream, no paneer, no yogurt?" Same question you are asking Rutba. Ask both, take whichever answers better.

The overlap — an older reading superseded 19 Sep

Don't order from this table. It was read off an older menu and is wrong: on the current dinner menu (re-read 19 and 29 Sep) only Chana Masala and Vegan Aloo Gobi Masala carry both marks, and Dal Tadka is vegan but not Jain. Kept for the prices only:

Dish
Vegan Dal Tadka$15.99
Vegan Chana Masala$15.99
Vegan Gobi Chili$14.99
Vegan Tamarind Rice$10.99
Vegan Samosa Chaat$8.99
Vegan Sev Puri$8.99
Vegan Pani Puri$9.99
Vegan Vegetable Salad · Mixed Pickle · Chutneys · Papad$1.99–5.99

On the current menu the full meal is chana masala or aloo gobi, jeera rice and Vegan Tandoori Roti ($3.99).

Vegan alone is not enough here. The menu also lists a "Vegan Onion Chili Lemon Salad" — vegan, and obviously not for you. And the Mango Cauliflower Masala is explicitly "cooked in an onion & fennel seed base." Trust the (J), not the word vegan.

You can keep the potatoes. Their Jain prep drops root vegetables, which is stricter than you need — say so and aloo comes back.

Vatsala and Leela eat freely — full paneer menu, naan, lassi bar.

settled 17 Aug Covered by the phone call — see the outreach log. Still say vegan + Jain together when you order, and that the flight portion is takeaway, dry.

Crossroads Kitchen Called 14 Aug — pasta and bread only

Resorts World, 3000 S Las Vegas Blvd · 7 min / 1.3 mi from the Venetian · Wed 4–10pm, dinner from 5 (Resorts World, 29 Sep)

The only upscale fully-vegan restaurant on the Strip, from chef Tal Ronnen. 100% plant-based, which means vegan is solved and only allium needs checking — the profile we want.

Two real risks. It's Mediterranean, a cuisine built on garlic. And the signature dish is a Truffle Mushroom pizza — mushroom and truffle are both out for you. Worth a call precisely because the upside is high: a proper dinner out where the whole menu is already vegan.

Best used on the 21st, when you're at the Venetian and have no takeaway requirement.

The Modern Vegan ✗ dropped 17 Aug — kept for the record

700 E Naples Dr · daily 10am–10pm · 100% plant-based

American diner food done entirely plant-based — burgers, comfort classics. Voted best vegan restaurant in Vegas. The most 3-year-old-proof option on the list, and a kitchen doing diner food from scratch can usually plate something plain.

Allium unverified. The useful question is whether a burger and fries can come without seasoned sauce or spiced patty.

Chef Kenny's Status confused — verify before going

The original Asian Vegan on Spring Mountain Rd reads CLOSED on Yelp, while Chef Kenny's Vegan Dim Sum, 5570 W Flamingo Rd appears to be trading. Vegan dim sum is a lovely idea, but it's further west and Chinese cooking is allium-heavy. Confirm it exists before driving.

Backups if Mint disappoints

  • Rutba Indian Kitchen — advertises “Jain & Vegan Options” on its own site, but names no dishes there; the dal / chana masala / ghee-free roti came from the chef by phone (17 Aug).
  • Taste of Gujarat — Gujarati thali, a cuisine that is frequently allium-free by tradition.
  • Truth & Tonic — reversed 16 Aug it is Thursday's confirmed breakfast, the 4th-floor Canyon Ranch café, direct line (702) 414-3633. Eataly at Park MGM (702) 730-7777 is unresolved (their line has a one-way-audio fault). Rutba (702) 202-1444 is the live lead.

✗ Ruled out

Cafe Soleil, Springdale — permanently closed. It still appears in current vegan guides to Zion. Don't plan around it, and don't re-check it.

Self-catering — what the trip runs on

  • Sprouts, St George, 22 Oct — the one real shop. Organic, properly labelled, so vegan and allium are things you read rather than negotiate. Breakfasts and lunches for the canyon days, and the cool bag.
  • The Cacti Casa, Sun 25 — the one full kitchen of the trip. Cook dinner and pack Monday's lunch.
  • Zion Lodge — mini-fridge and a shared microwave, for three nights. Nothing is cooked beforehand any more: it is Sprouts on the drive in, Red Rock Grill for hot food, and a Sol Foods run down-canyon if you need one. Favour food that's fine cold — the microwave will have a queue at 7pm.
  • ARIA, Vegas — no kitchen; sensor minibar. The Mint takeaway has to hold ~19 hours (5pm Mon to Tuesday lunch), so ask at check-in for a fridge as a medical request (pregnancy); the cool bag and hotel ice are the fallback.
  • Venetian, Vegas — no kitchen at all.
